I would love your opinion. I\u2019m about to retire from the NYPD and I\u2019m leaving the woke cesspool that New York has become. I\u2019m looking at Tennessee, but I\u2019m worried about my 13-year-old son. I think it might be too much of a shock for him. He\u2019ll be starting high school. I worry about the kids accepting him. Will they consider him a city boy? We\u2019re actually from a conservative area of Long Island, but I think my area is becoming more woke every day. My son is shy and not into sports. Kids can be so mean and my son has his circle of friends. I\u2019m considering letting him finish high school here and then move. Financially, this wouldn\u2019t be the smartest move. But my son is more important than my finances. I would bankrupt myself before I put money over his needs. Of course, it wouldn\u2019t come to that as I would just have to work. What do you think?! I have been looking online at houses in Soddy-Daisy. This sounds so peaceful to me. What are your thoughts?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Loralee, I love this question so much because I was born in New York, raised in Stamford, Connecticut, and now I live in Tennessee.<\/p>\n<p>Based on my experience, what I can tell you is that your concept and your ideas about the South are being influenced by your environment \u2014 a northeastern pattern of thinking, as I like to call it.<\/p>\n<p>Coming from the northeast, I can say that we are so convinced that the South is a certain way and it just isn\u2019t so. There is no community that is going to be more accepting of your son and who he is and more accepting of you than people who live in the South \u2014 especially in Tennessee.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not saying this because of who I am.<\/p>\n<p>You might think, \u2018Oh, well, you\u2019re Candace Owens. They love you. You talk about conservative principles.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>When people who were on my security detail moved in on their street \u2014 obviously they were not public figures at all \u2014 neighbors came to their house, dropped off baked goods, and welcomed them to the community.<\/p>\n<p>One of the guys told me it was almost jarring. One day there was a knock on his door and it was a neighbor saying, \u201cOh, we see you have kids. We have kids and we\u2019re just bringing you some cupcakes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s just incredible.<\/p>\n<p>Something like that would never happen in Connecticut or New York.<\/p>\n<p>You know Northeasterners, we put our headphones in and keep our heads down. We don\u2019t talk to one another.<\/p>\n<p>Yet it\u2019s the exact opposite here.<\/p>\n<p>For example, my husband and I became best friends with the people who built our house. New friends invited us to church with them for Easter. It is a very Christian environment down in Tennessee.<\/p>\n<p>Also, many people forget that Nashville is a big city. It\u2019s becoming bigger because people like you, Loralee, are realizing that Tennessee might be a better place to live. It aligns more with their values. Chattanooga is also a small city \u2014 which is close to Soddy-Daisy.<\/p>\n<p>So I would not worry about your child at all. Children are so much more adaptable than we give them credit for. It\u2019s usually we adults who are stuck in our ways.<\/p>\n<p>So your son is going to be fine. You\u2019re going to be fine, Loralee.<\/p>\n<p>I hope I can welcome you to the great state of Tennessee.
