The bill now heads to the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>The bill has led to some controversy due to its rescinding of the Covid vaccine mandate for military personnel. On Wednesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/watch-karine-jean-pierre-says-lifting-military-vaccine-mandate-is-a-mistake\">White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre<\/a> told reporters that the move by Republicans in Congress to scrap the mandate is a &#8220;mistake.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What we think happened here is that Republicans in Congress have decided that they&#8217;d rather fight against the health and wellbeing of our troops than protect them,&#8221; Jean-Pierre said. &#8220;And we believe that it is a mistake what we saw happen on the NDAA as it relates to the vaccine mandate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The $858 billion plan includes a 4.6 percent pay raise for troops, and an extra nearly $19 billion to offset the impact of inflation, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/biden-covid-lloyd-austin-china-government-united-states-eeda05bfffadd83d050b5f573352082f\">Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A number of Senate Republicans have signed a letter stating that they would vote against the NDAA if it does not include the removal of vaccine provisions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/kevin-mccarthy-says-military-vaccine-mandate-will-end-or-defense-budget-wont-move-forward\">House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy <\/a>threatened to axe the bill if it did not include the removal of such measures.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The House has passed an $858 billion defense bill, known as the National Defense Authorization Act, which would see an end to vaccine mandates for military personnel.
