This week, the journalist\u2019s bible forbade the use of the phrase \u201clate-term abortion,\u201d which drew swift rebuke as politically motivated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo not use the term \u2018late-term abortion,&#8217;\u201d the stylebook said in a post on Twitter. \u201cThe American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists [ACOG] defines late term as 41 weeks through 41 weeks and 6 days of gestation, and abortion does not happen in this period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead, use the term \u2018abortion later in pregnancy\u2019 if a general term is needed, but be aware that there are varying definitions of the time period involved,\u201d the organization added. \u201cBe specific when possible: abortions after XX weeks when XX is known in the context of the specific story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Do not use the term \u201clate-term abortion.\u201d The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists defines late term as 41 weeks through 41 weeks and 6 days of gestation, and abortion does not happen in this period. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/KjT1k9rDSS\">pic.twitter.com\/KjT1k9rDSS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 APStylebook (@APStylebook) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/APStylebook\/status\/1600217083056267264?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 6, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The new change drew ridicule on the social media platform.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cACOG is a pro-abortion group. As a supposedly unbiased news source you shouldn\u2019t rely on partisan groups to determine your terminology,\u201d Life News, a pro-life organization,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LifeNewsHQ\/status\/1600221275929968640\">wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><a class=\"c-link c-link--focus-visible\" tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/get.dailywire.com\/readers-pass\/read-only-v2?utm_campaign=dwplus&#038;utm_medium=editorial&#038;utm_source=dwsite&#038;cid=dwplus&#038;mid=z&#038;xid=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/get.dailywire.com\/readers-pass\/read-only-v2?utm_campaign=dwplus&#038;utm_medium=editorial&#038;utm_source=dwsite&#038;cid=dwplus&#038;mid=z&#038;xid=0\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\" data-remove-tab-index=\"true\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-40719\">TIRED OF THE LEGACY MEDIA\u2019S BIAS CONTROLLING THE NARRATIVE AND OBSCURING THE TRUTH? JOIN US.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is absurd,\u201d it\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LifeNewsHQ\/status\/1600221782991986689\">added<\/a> Life News, a pro-life group. \u201cWhen SCOTUS came up with three trimesters in 1973, late-term was understood to be post viability or the 3rd trimester. Now you\u2019re redefining it to be the 6 days before term. That\u2019s not medicine, that\u2019s propaganda designed to gloss over late-term abortions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018Late-term abortion\u2019 is too aggressive a way to describe stabbing a viable unborn baby in the heart with a needle containing potassium chloride &#038; delivering its lifeless corpse,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JohnWesleyBush3\/status\/1600247336822665216\">wrote<\/a> another. \u201cThe absolute ghouls populating our elite class traffic in euphemism because they have nothing else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But that\u2019s the modern AP. The longtime wire service provides news to newspapers and news websites, and guess what? Most of them are liberal. So (and you can\u2019t blame them), the AP delivers liberal news for their liberal readers. That\u2019s just business.<\/p>\n<p>But the days of the AP simply being an unbiased news site are long gone. I remember when I was covering George W. Bush in the White House, the powers that be at the AP decided it no longer had to present two opposing sides equally. Instead, top editors there agreed that <em>they<\/em> would determine what viewpoint should be stressed, and what viewpoint should be minimized.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the AP simply says that they are right, and you are wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s settle one thing: early-term abortion, first trimester. Mid-term abortion, second trimester. Late-term abortion, third trimester. That\u2019s language.<\/p>\n<p>Some call that last procedure \u201cpartial-birth abortion.\u201d Since the AP is using ACOG as its fundamental source, let\u2019s turn to their counterpart, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (it\u2019s called equal representation, a cornerstone of journalism), for a counterpoint.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPartial-birth abortion (PBA) is the term Congress has used to describe a procedure that crosses the line from abortion to infanticide. The doctor delivers a substantial portion of the living child outside his mother\u2019s body \u2014 the entire head in a head-first delivery or the trunk past the navel in a feet-first delivery \u2014 then kills the child by crushing his skull or removing his brain by suction,\u201d the conference <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usccb.org\/issues-and-action\/human-life-and-dignity\/abortion\/partial-birth-abortion\">wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Well, uh, gruesome.<\/p>\n<p>A strong majority of Americans oppose partial-birth abortion. \u201cA survey conducted by You.gov with the pro-life group Americans United for Life found that 66 percent of U.S. adults who identify as pro-choice opposed third-trimester abortions, and 68 percent oppose abortions the day before a baby is born,\u201d the AP <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/dec1f82c4c630cb97ab7cefc58cf0866\">reported<\/a> in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>But an equally strong majority also support abortion in general.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, a 61% majority of U.S. adults say abortion should be legal in all or most cases, while 37% think abortion should be illegal in all or most cases,\u201d Pew Research reported in June. \u201cMajorities of adults across racial and ethnic groups say abortion should be legal in all or most cases.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So, AP, that\u2019s some balanced journalism.
