YouTube<a href=\"https:\/\/censortrack.org\/case\/china-uncensored-0\"> age-restricted<\/a> both their <a href=\"https:\/\/censortrack.org\/case\/china-show\">podcast<\/a> and another show, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@ChinaUncensored\/featured\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>China Uncensored<\/em><\/a>, which were covering the mass anti-CCP protests in China, as MRC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/censortrack.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CensorTrack<\/a> recorded. <em>The China Show<\/em> was also demonetized.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen YouTube age-restricts a video, it kills it,\u201d Sterzel said on their <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/5pxbQwWFcb4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dec. 2 show<\/a>. He explained that YouTube\u2019s age restriction not only prevents people under a certain age from viewing a video, but it prevents anyone who is not logged into an account from viewing the video. Many people view YouTube videos without being logged in. Sterzel said a restricted video cannot be embedded or preview play. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t get shared out, and YouTube doesn\u2019t promote it,\u201d he said. &#8220;It completely destroys it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sterzel continued, \u201cAnd this is a new tactic of the Chinese <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voanews.com\/a\/who-is-that-chinese-troll\/3540663.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">50 Cent Army<\/a>, is they go out to mass-flag our videos, to get them age-restricted.\u201d The hosts said that other videos with the same footage and similar coverage are not age-restricted, and insisted they had deliberately removed violent parts of their footage to avoid age restrictions.<\/p>\n<p><em>The China Show\u2019<\/em>s video had over 815,000 views at the time of the show, but Tye said the video would likely be at 2 million views if it had not been age-restricted. After an appeal, the restriction has since been lifted, he said, but the damage was done. Tye explained that he objects to the censorship not because \u201cwe want to be famous,\u201d but because \u201cit stopped the message of showing the Chinese protestors that wanted the Chinese government to step down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And while Sterzel <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/serpentza\/status\/1597051973508820992?s=20&#038;t=QuTuUtmvifANAZu7abXT7g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flagged<\/a> the censorship for YouTube on Nov. 27, the videos were still restricted on Nov. 30, despite YouTube <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TeamYouTube\/status\/1597447157484765186?s=20&#038;t=XKfBVIoVKfPUAnft9sUWew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">acknowledging<\/a> on Twitter that it had received the messages on <em>China Uncensored<\/em>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/chinauncensored\/status\/1597025601248169984?s=46&#038;t=8eJv2x-f7V0OhnAATUmm-w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter page<\/a>, which included Sterzel\u2019s complaint too.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to YouTube\u2019s tweet, <em>China Uncensored<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChinaUncensored\/status\/1597554239483817984\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">highlighted<\/a> YouTube\u2019s complicity in the CCP\u2019s censorship efforts. \u201c[W]e were told that we\u2019re not allowed to show protests in China or anywhere else,\u201d the account tweeted. \u201cIf, however, we censor ourselves and delete footage of protests, YouTube will remove the age-restriction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Sterzel and Tye indicated on their Dec. 2 show, YouTube might not be responsible for CCP bots mass-flagging a video, but the platform <em>is <\/em>responsible for insisting on censorship of significant protests against an anti-free speech regime, to the benefit of that regime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy problem is, our Western social media platforms are affected by this,\u201d Tye exclaimed. \u201cAnd they\u2019re still not stepping up and putting a stop to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Conservatives are under attack<\/em><\/strong><em>.
