We hope these lawsuits force TikTok to come clean and change its ways.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuits seek emergency injunctive relief and civil penalties against TikTok.<\/p>\n<p>The Indiana lawsuits add to a growing list of states that have announced plans to ban the Chinese-based app from state devices.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Texas became the largest state to do so, with Republican Gov. Greg Abbott denouncing TikTok.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I&#8217;ve banned TikTok on state issued devices.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m also calling for legislation to make the ban permanent and to broaden the ban.<\/p>\n<p>As I detail in my letter and press release, the threat posed by the CCP through TikTok is serious and must be stopped.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/X4kkFfCDq3\">https:\/\/t.co\/X4kkFfCDq3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Greg Abbott (@GregAbbott_TX) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GregAbbott_TX\/status\/1600592803012415488?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 7, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTikTok harvests vast amounts of data from its users\u2019 devices\u2014including when, where, and how they conduct Internet activity\u2014and offers this trove of potentially sensitive information to the Chinese government,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/gov.texas.gov\/news\/post\/governor-abbott-orders-aggressive-action-against-tiktok\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>\u00a0in a letter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile TikTok has claimed that it stores U.S. data within the U.S., the company admitted in a letter to Congress that China-based employees can have access to U.S. data. It has also been reported that ByteDance planned to use TikTok location information to surveil individual American citizens,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/another-governor-bans-tiktok-from-state-devices\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that Maryland Republican Gov. Larry Hogan announced a ban on TikTok from the state\u2019s government devices on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere may be no greater threat to our personal safety and our national security than the cyber vulnerabilities that support our daily lives,\u201d Hogan\u00a0<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/governor.maryland.gov\/2022\/12\/06\/governor-hogan-announces-emergency-directive-to-prohibit-use-of-tiktok-china-and-russia-based-products-and-platforms-in-state-government\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, South Carolina Republican Gov. Henry McMaster <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/a-clear-and-present-danger-to-its-users-south-carolina-gov-bans-state-employees-from-using-tiktok-amid-national-security-concerns\">issued<\/a>\u00a0an executive order banning TikTok from government devices.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, South Dakota Republican Gov. Kristi Noem became the first governor to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/south-dakota-governor-noem-blocks-state-employees-from-downloading-tiktok\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ban<\/a> TikTok from state devices and made it a criminal offense to download the app on a state device.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSouth Dakota will have no part in the intelligence gathering operations of nations who hate us,\u201d Noem said in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.sd.gov\/newsitem.aspx?id=31872\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. \u201cThe Chinese Communist Party uses information that it gathers on TikTok to manipulate the American people, and they gather data off the devices that access the platform.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the federal level, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) introduced legislation last month to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/republican-lawmakers-to-introduce-legislation-banning-tiktok-in-u-s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ban the app<\/a> in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Concerns about the Chinese-based app reach back to 2020 when then-President Donald Trump signed an executive order that sought to ban the use of TikTok in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>The order was to take effect 45 days later but was not implemented following a series of legal challenges.
