Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, reacts to Twitter CEO Elon Musk firing the social media company\u2019s lawyer, James Baker, who was the former FBI general counsel during the Russia collusion hoax and initial suppression of the Hunter Biden story.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"speakable\">House GOP leaders hinted Wednesday that they may pursue legal action related to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/musk-strikes-back-against-twitter-deep-state-fires-james-baker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">former Twitter and FBI lawyer James Baker&#8217;s<\/a> involvement in the suppression of 2020 media reports related to Hunter Biden&#8217;s laptop.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">The Republican leaders, who are slated to assume leadership roles when the GOP take majority control of the House early next year, suggested that all options are on the table when asked by Fox News Digital whether they would pursue legal action or issue any subpoenas related to recent reports about Baker. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/person\/elon-musk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter CEO Elon Musk<\/a> announced Tuesday that Baker had been &#8220;exited&#8221; from the company for suppressing information.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Stay tuned,&#8221; a House Judiciary Committee GOP spokesperson told Fox News Digital in an email when asked about potential legal actions the committee could take.<\/p>\n<p>Late last week, independent journalist Matt Taibbi released a trove of internal Twitter files that revealed company communications following the release of photos and messages on a laptop belonging to President Biden&#8217;s son, Hunter Biden, shortly before the 2020 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/twitter-ablaze-elon-musk-fires-lawyer-involved-suppressing-laptop-story-russian-collusion-hoax\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>TWITTER ABLAZE AS ELON MUSK FIRES LAWYER INVOLVED IN SUPPRESSING LAPTOP STORY, \u2018RUSSIAN COLLUSION HOAX\u2019<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"image-ct inline\">\n<div class=\"m\"><source media=\"(max-width: 767px)\" \/><source media=\"(min-width: 767px) and (max-width: 1023px)\" \/><source media=\"(min-width: 1024px) and (max-width: 1279px)\" \/><source media=\"(min-width: 1280px)\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/a57.foxnews.com\/static.foxnews.com\/foxnews.com\/content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/640\/320\/JimBaker.jpg?ve=1&#038;tl=1\" alt=\"James Baker, former Twitter deputy general counsel and former FBI general counsel\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"caption\">\n<p>\n      James Baker, former Twitter deputy general counsel and former FBI general counsel<br \/>\n      <span class=\"copyright\">(Ron Sachs\/Consolidated News Pictures\/Getty Images\/File)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Baker, who Twitter hired as its deputy general counsel in June 2020, said in an email \u2014 following a New York Post story published on Oct. 14, 2020, that highlighted information from the laptop \u2014 that Twitter needed &#8220;more facts to assess whether the materials were hacked&#8221; and added that &#8220;it&#8217;s reasonable for us to assume that they may have been and that caution is warranted.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Twitter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/elon-musk-reveals-twitter-suppressing-hunter-biden-story-2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ultimately suppressed the story<\/a> and suspended the New York Post&#8217;s account for two weeks, sparking outcry from Republicans who thought the story could have played a role in the election.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to joining Twitter, Baker also served as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/elon-musk-fires-twitter-deputy-general-counsel-jim-baker-amid-hunter-biden-laptop-fallout\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general counsel for the FBI<\/a> and played a key role in the agency&#8217;s investigation into former President Donald Trump&#8217;s alleged collusion with Russia during the 2016 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/ousted-twitter-counsel-jim-baker-vetted-files-without-elon-musks-knowledge-matt-taibbi-reveals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>OUSTED TWITTER COUNSEL JAMES BAKER VETTED &#8216;TWITTER FILES&#8217; WITHOUT ELON MUSK&#8217;S KNOWLEDGE, MATT TAIBBI REVEALS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Twitter holds former FBI employees accountable for their actions. James Comer, R-Ky., the ranking member of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, penned a letter to Baker, asking him to appear before the committee during the next Congress.
