Now, she has some regrets about her game-changing contributions.<\/p>\n<p>Kaling told \u201cGood Morning America\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/tv\/mindy-kaling-says-the-office-is-so-inappropriate-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series wouldn\u2019t exist today<\/a> thanks to changing cultural mores.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat show is so inappropriate now \u2026 the writers who I\u2019m still in touch with now, we always talk about how so much of that show we probably couldn\u2019t make now. Tastes have changed, and honestly what offends people has changed so much now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kaling, the star of the woke comedy flop \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/late-night-review\/\">Late Night,<\/a>\u201d wasn\u2019t done. She\u00a0admitted she\u2019s not ready to show \u201cThe Office\u201d to her children \u2026 \u201cmaybe never.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Plenty of TV watchers disagree. The show remains an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cosmopolitan.com\/entertainment\/tv\/a35728247\/how-to-watch-the-office-streaming\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in-demand series,<\/a> drawing sizable eyeballs on streaming services.<\/p>\n<p>Kaling explained why \u201cThe Office\u201d remains so popular despite her regrets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that actually is one of the reasons the show is popular, because people feel like there\u2019s something kind of fearless about it or taboo that it talks about on the show.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She isn\u2019t the first \u201cOffice\u201d alum to admit the show couldn\u2019t be made as-is today. Oscar nominee Steve Carell similarly said his Michael Scott character is <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2018\/10\/steve-carell-the-office-might-be-impossible-today-1202481179\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">too problematic by modern standards.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, the whole idea of that character, Michael Scott, so much of it was predicated on inappropriate behavior. I mean, he\u2019s certainly not a model boss. A lot of what is depicted on that show is completely wrong-minded. That\u2019s the point, you know?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I just don\u2019t know how that would fly now. There\u2019s a very high awareness of offensive things today \u2013 which is good, for sure. But at the same time, when you take a character like that too literally, it doesn\u2019t really work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Office\u201d earned 42 Emmy nominations, including five wins, over its nine-season run. The series spawned the popular podcast \u201cOffice Ladies\u201d with co-stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey.<\/p>\n<p>Series mainstay Brian Baumgartner became a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insider.com\/the-office-brian-baumgartner-made-over-1-million-on-cameo-2021-11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cameo sensation<\/a>, earning $1 million from the celebrity platform.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mindy Kaling played a sizable role in making \u201cThe Office\u201d one of the best sitcoms of the modern era.
