In 2016, Baker was the Clinton campaign\u2019s \u201cgo-to, speed-dial contact\u201d to plant false claims about Kremlin collusion and the Trump White House effort. Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann picked Baker to give junk intelligence about a purported connection between President Donald Trump and the Russian Alfa Bank.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was effectively forced out due to his role and reportedly found himself under criminal investigation. He became a defender of the Russian investigations despite findings of biased and even criminal conduct,\u201d Turley wrote. \u201cAfter leaving the FBI, Twitter seemed eager to hire Baker as deputy general counsel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first batch of <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/12\/03\/twitter-files-confirm-big-tech-leftists-suppressed-hunter-biden-laptop-story-ahead-of-2020-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cTwitter Files\u201d<\/a> out on Friday <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mtaibbi\/status\/1598836516553641989?s=20&#038;t=lU78NE9GkSr3oMfVDarryw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">revealed <\/a>how Baker went on to play an instrumental role in suppressing blockbuster stories from the New York Post about Hunter Biden\u2019s laptop and the Biden family business ventures \u2014 stories containing emails that implicated then-candidate Joe Biden in the dealings. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBaker soon weighed in with the same signature bias that characterized the Russian investigations,\u201d Turley wrote. Internal documents made public last week show Baker pressed colleagues at Twitter for more information that Biden\u2019s emails had been hacked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCaution is warranted,\u201d Baker wrote, despite there never being evidence the emails were illegally hacked. <\/p>\n<p>Musk responded to Taibbi\u2019s post on Tuesday with the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1600237095364096000?s=20&#038;t=2SGtJpg3P_LwXy87b1-Ovg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announcement <\/a>that Baker had been fired. <\/p>\n<p>  <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1600237095364096000?s=20&#038;t=2SGtJpg3P_LwXy87b1-Ovg\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn light of concerns about Baker\u2019s possible role in suppression of information important to the public dialogue, he was exited from Twitter today,\u201d Musk wrote. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWas he asked to explain himself?\u201d inquired a user. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes. His explanation was \u2026unconvincing,\u201d Musk replied. <\/p>\n<p>In a \u201cTwitter Files Supplemental\u201d thread, Taibbi explained that last week\u2019s delay in publishing the first round of files was due to Baker reviewing them without new Twitter leadership knowing. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwitter Deputy General Counsel (and former FBI General Counsel) Jim Baker was fired. Among the reasons? Vetting the first batch of \u2018Twitter Files\u2019 \u2014 without knowledge of new management,\u201d Taibbi wrote. <\/p>\n<p>The post suggests Baker was running interference behind Musk\u2019s back to minimize the fallout over the reveal of Twitter\u2019s behind-the-scenes operations to elect Joe Biden in 2020. <\/p>\n<p>While general counsel at the FBI, Baker was central to the agency\u2019s deep-state operations to undermine Trump as an agent of the Russian government.
