Warnock\u2019s victory follows a disappointing midterm election from Republicans across the United States, aside from several bright spots in the Georgia and Florida gubernatorial races.<\/p>\n<p>Many pre-midterm polls and analyses predicted a \u201cred wave,\u201d with Republicans taking the House by a wide margin, and even the Senate by two to four seats, but following the midterm, Democrats have held the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>This is Warnock\u2019s second runoff after he defeated GOP candidate Kelly Loefller in the 2020 race, which was also not decided on the day of the general election \u2014 however, there were some changes to the voting process this time around.<\/p>\n<p>Under The Peach State\u2019s 2021 voting reform law signed by incumbent Governor Brian Kemp (R), the state of Georgia shortened the time between the day of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcwashington.com\/news\/politics\/georgias-early-voting-turnout-far-lower-than-last-runoff-after-state-changes-election-laws\/3225734\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general election<\/a> and the runoff election from nine weeks to just four. Similarly, the bill also condensed early voting from more than two weeks to just one week.<\/p>\n<p>More than 1.8 million Georgians <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/georgia-breaks-record-on-last-day-of-early-voting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">voted<\/a> early in the state\u2019s Senate runoff election scheduled for December 6, including a record-high 353,000 voters on Friday, the final day of early voting.<\/p>\n<p>The official numbers from the Secretary of State recorded 1,868,127\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sos.ga.gov\/data-hub-december-6-2022-runoff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">early voters<\/a>. The total revealed that more than one million female voters voted early, according to the state\u2019s statistics.<\/p>\n<p>The number of early voters was below the total from the recent November midterms in Georgia, when about <a href=\"https:\/\/sos.ga.gov\/news\/georgia-voters-set-all-time-midterm-early-turnout-record\">2.5 million<\/a> voters cast their ballot before Election Day.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the high level of early voting, the total is still lower than in the 2020 presidential election, when approximately\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/politics\/georgia-election-2022-25m-early-votes-cast-a-midterm-turnout-record\/R5ZEYSPNMJH3RKVUMUZEGOXG5E\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2.5 million Georgia<\/a>\u00a0residents voted early. Midterm elections generally draw smaller numbers of voters, with the state reflecting lower numbers experienced nationwide between the 2020 and 2022 elections.<\/p>\n<p>In reaction to the turnout, Georgia\u2019s Secretary of State\u2019s Chief Operating Officer Gabriel Sterling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/politics\/live-news\/georgia-senate-race-12-04-22\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> CNN over the weekend, \u201cThere\u2019s obviously a lot of enthusiasm. Both Democrats and Republicans can point to the turnout models and say, \u2018that\u2019s good for us\u2019 so nobody knows what\u2019s going to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The post-general election campaigning saw big stars from both parties turn out for their respective candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Kemp \u2014 who defeated Democrat gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams this year \u2014 sat down with CNN to express why he was showing up for Walker during the runoff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe runoff now is a very simple choice,\u201d Kemp\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LIfwUOXmEB4&#038;t=407s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0at one point in the interview. \u201cYou know, are you going to vote for somebody that\u2019s been with Joe Biden 96% of the time, or are you going to vote for somebody that\u2019s going to go up there and fight for Georgia? And that\u2019s the way I\u2019m voting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As noted by CNN, Kemp was more hands-off during the general election. Walker was the only state-wide GOP candidate to not win outright on election night in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>On Warnock\u2019s side, Democrat heavyweight former President Barack Obama <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/upon-further-review-obamas-crazy-uncle-joe-snub-was-no-accident-in-georgia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">campaigned<\/a> for the incumbent in the final stretch.<\/p>\n<p>During one stop, Obama <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Acyn\/status\/1598471626638913537?s=20&#038;t=LMFuSGE-y2vRB4k-gUu5dg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mocked<\/a>\u00a0Walker for a story he recently told about vampires and why he would want to be a werewolf instead. The 44th president said that Walker can be anything he wants to be \u2014 just not a United States senator.<\/p>\n<p>The former president compared Walker to a \u201ccrazy\u201d \u201cUncle Joe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all know some folks in our lives, who we don\u2019t wish them ill will. They say crazy stuff and we\u2019re all like, \u2018Well, Uncle Joe, you know what happened to him,\u2019\u201d Obama said to laughs from the audience. \u201cThey\u2019re part of the family, but you don\u2019t give them serious responsibilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Throughout both the general and run-off campaign, polls showed Warnock and Walker neck-and-neck.<\/p>\n<p><em>This is a developing story; check back for updates.<\/p>\n<p><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
