It also opens up eligibility for those who entered the country too late to apply. (Chip Somodevilla\/ Getty Images)<\/figure>\n<h2>Over 200,000 Haitians Eligible<\/h2>\n<p>An estimated 264,000 will be granted the extended TPS, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/americas\/us-extends-deportation-relief-haitians-2022-12-06\/\">Reuters<\/a>.\u00a0Of the\u00a0estimated 264,000 Haitians in the United States, roughly 101,000 have TPS status and 53,000 have pending applications, according to the DHS.<\/p>\n<p>Another 110,000 more recent arrivals would also be covered by the new extension, Reuters reported.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, only Haitians who had arrived in the United States before July 29, 2021 were eligible for TPS after the\u00a0Biden administration redesignated Haiti for the protections.<\/p>\n<p>Former President Donald Trump has sought to end TPS for hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants in an effort to tackle the worsening <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-border-crisis\">border crisis<\/a> but ultimately his attempts were inundated with legal challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Under Biden, the United States has extended TPS for hundreds of thousands\u00a0of people from Ukraine, Haiti, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Sudan, Honduras, and Nepal.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cato.org\/blog\/what-biden-has-gotten-right-immigration\">Cato\u00a0Institute<\/a>, a\u00a0Washington, D.C.-based\u00a0libertarian think tank,\u00a0nearly 1 million people\u2014approximately\u00a0986,881\u2014are eligible for TPS under the Biden administration; that figure is more than double the eligibility under Trump.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4900103\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2022\/12\/02\/Port-au-Prince-police-GettyImages-1244672198-1200x800.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy size-medium wp-image-4900103\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/themes\/eet\/images\/white.png\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Port-au-Prince-police-GettyImages-1244672198-600x400-1.jpg\" alt=\"Port-au-Prince police\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4900103\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Port-au-Prince-police-GettyImages-1244672198-600x400-1.jpg\" alt=\"Port-au-Prince police\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a> Police attempt to secure the area during an attack by armed gangs as people flee their homes in the Carrefour Feuille neighborhood of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on Nov. 10, 2022.
