It will pay around $168 million by the end of the year and said it \u201cexpects to recover a meaningful portion of the settlement amount from its insurance carriers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Customers of the car company have argued that they were pulled over, arrested, and put in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/12\/05\/business\/hertz-lawsuit-settlement\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">jail<\/a> and prosecuted for stealing vehicles. In reality, they claimed, Hertz just couldn\u2019t find the cars after they were turned back in. Some customers have taken issue with other frustrations with their rentals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">One of the lawsuits <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/07\/15\/business\/hertz-rental-arrests\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">involved<\/a> 47 customers and claimed the company didn\u2019t keep track of rental extensions and incorrectly said customers hadn\u2019t issued payments. JOIN US AND SAVE 30%.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Some of the people who have sued Hertz said police held them at gunpoint over the mixups.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe are reviewing and considering each claim brought against Hertz on its individual merits,\u201d Hertz spokesman Jonathan Stern said at the time. \u201cWe have begun extending settlement offers to dozens of claimants and will continue to do so on a case by case basis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Hertz CEO Steven Scherr <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2022\/12\/05\/hertz-settlement-false-arrests-customers\/10838055002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">arrived<\/a> at the company in February and promised to fix the problem.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAs I have said since joining\u00a0Hertz earlier this year,\u00a0my intention is to lead a company\u00a0that puts the customer first. In resolving these claims, we are holding ourselves to that objective,\u201d Scherr said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWhile we will not always be perfect, the professionals at\u00a0Hertz\u00a0will continue to work every day to provide best-in-class service to the tens of millions of people we serve each year. Moving forward, it is our intention to reshape the future of our company through electrification, shared mobility and a great digital-first customer experience,\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In June, Hertz distributed its initial grouping of settlement offers.
