They greenlit a measure to prohibit the extraction process of new oil and gas. The vote for the measure passed with no one voting against it \u2014 12 to 0.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The city will get rid of operations that already are running \u201cafter a 20-year amortization period,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/planning.lacity.org\/odocument\/7e8aea68-fb21-4920-b0a1-0a1dc0f6563a\/Oil_Ordinance_Fact_Sheet_-_English_Version_.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according<\/a> to a fact <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/3762406-los-angeles-city-council-approves-ban-on-oil-and-gas-drilling-within-city-limits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sheet<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThis may be the most important step towards environmental justice that this council has taken in recent memory,\u201d Council President Paul Krekorian <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7.com\/los-angeles-oil-and-gas-ban-la-city-council-vote-environment\/12520325\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><a class=\"c-link\" tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/get.dailywire.com\/subscribe\/plus?utm_campaign=dwplus&#038;utm_medium=editorial&#038;utm_source=dwsite&#038;cid=dwplus&#038;mid=z&#038;xid=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/get.dailywire.com\/subscribe\/plus?utm_campaign=dwplus&#038;utm_medium=editorial&#038;utm_source=dwsite&#038;cid=dwplus&#038;mid=z&#038;xid=0\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\" data-remove-tab-index=\"true\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-86\">TIRED OF THE LEGACY MEDIA\u2019S BIAS CONTROLLING THE NARRATIVE AND OBSCURING THE TRUTH? In January, the entire City Council <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/3762406-los-angeles-city-council-approves-ban-on-oil-and-gas-drilling-within-city-limits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">voted<\/a> in favor of creating a resolution after the county voted to get rid of oil and gas drilling last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">While some have pushed Los Angeles to end oil drilling, there is also worry about the possible loss of employment opportunities and spike in gasoline prices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWhat happens very often is the profiteers of the oil and gas companies will use their mistreated workforce as a way to try to push back on policymakers,\u201d Krekorian claimed at a briefing. \u201dThey will try to use a fake, false untruthful argument about impacts on gasoline prices.\u201d He also said that the time of oil and gas production is stopping either way.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Warren Resources is one of the companies that has oil wells in the region and was against the measure.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In a statement, president James A. Watt, said the company plans to \u201duse all available legal resources to protect our major investment from this unlawful taking\u201d and said that pollution resulting from its work was \u201con par with that of a fast-food restaurant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWarren has demonstrated to the City Council and all other regulatory authorities that we are not an environmentally significant pollution source for the community,\u201d Watt said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The decision also has international implications.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Hector Barajas, a spokesman for the California Independent Petroleum Association, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/12\/05\/los-angeles-bans-oil-and-gas-drilling-within-city-limits.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> the new measure makes it so that the 2.5 million oil barrels made by the city last year would need to now come from international imports, like those from Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cOur in-state oil is the only California climate-compliant oil in the world, given that oil producers must adhere to the state\u2019s greenhouse gas reduction program and account for all emissions,\u201d Barajas pointed out. \u201cForeign oil imports are totally exempt from those requirements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The latest development goes in line with Democratic Governor of California Gavin Newsom\u2019s efforts from earlier this year.
