The New York Times, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/12\/05\/nyregion\/alvin-bragg-trump-investigation.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">which broke the news<\/a>, said Colangelo is likely to become a leader in the Trump inquiry. JOIN US AND SAVE 30%.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Colangelo, 48, served as a senior official in the Obama administration\u2019s Labor Department, working under then-Secretary Tom Perez, who went on to become chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 2017 to 2021. During the Trump administration years, Colangelo established himself as a leader in New York Attorney General Letitia James\u2019 office, where he also worked with Bragg, spearheaded multiple lawsuits against the federal government, and led the still-active civil probe into Trump\u2019s business empire.<\/p>\n<p>When President Joe Biden took office, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/archives\/asg\/staff-profile\/former-acting-associate-attorney-general-matthew-colangelo\">Colangelo became acting associate attorney general<\/a> in the Justice Department. He later became deputy to the permanent associate attorney general, Vanita Gupta. Other prior experience includes working on housing and employment issues at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, per The New York Times.<\/p>\n<p>The report said Colangelo joined Bragg\u2019s office on Monday as senior counsel, a role in which he will assist in cases beyond the Trump inquiry, including those related to labor and housing issues. Prosecutors have also recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/11\/21\/nyregion\/trump-bragg-stormy-daniels.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">returned a focus<\/a> to a hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels, who claims to have had an affair with Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Colangelo\u2019s new assignment is a sign of life for Bragg\u2019s Trump investigation. Bragg, who took over as district attorney at the start of this year, lost two prosecutors in February after he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/02\/23\/nyregion\/trump-ny-fraud-investigation.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly expressed doubts<\/a> about the Trump case he inherited. One of those prosecutors who resigned in protest, Mark Pomerantz, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/prosecutor-says-trump-guilty-of-numerous-felonies\">insisted in his resignation letter<\/a> that Trump was \u201cguilty of numerous felony violations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump announced last month that he is embarking on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-trump-launches-third-bid-for-white-house\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">third campaign<\/a> for the White House.
