John Katko (R-NY), Tom Reed (R-NY) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA)) joining the Democrats in favor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>While the Left celebrates, we must understand that those who are pushing for the Equality Act are playing a very clever and extraordinarily manipulative game, and are simultaneously willing to tear down the foundation of the United States in the process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This game is an emotional and ideological \u201cbait and switch,\u201d shrouded in ambiguity, verbal contortion, and deceit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The \u201cbait and switch\u201d element is provided by the attempt to portray the legislation as an answer to the question \u201cdo transgender people deserve to exist in our society?\u201d Nothing was more indicative of this association than OREO Cookie\u2019s inane<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Oreo\/status\/1365038991469281280\"><span>tweet<\/span><\/a><span>, \u201cTrans people exist.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Like so many of the Left\u2019s policy positions, they are presented as binary questions along imaginary lines, making it easy to lazily mischaracterize critics as inherently evil. Don\u2019t support our gun control policies? I guess you want children to die! Oppose abortion? You want women to die in back-alley abortions, don\u2019t you? Reject the Equality Act? You don\u2019t even want transgender people to exist!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Equality Act is dripping in vague language which hands further power to those who hope to wield it to achieve political objectives. The over-broad category of \u201cLGBTQ\u201d is used to encapsulate as many potential victims as possible. Discrimination is defined as a variety of subjective and imprecise acts, including \u201cunequal or unfair treatment,\u201d \u201cdifferential pricing for substantially similar products,\u201d and credit checks which \u201creveal a former name.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This language, alongside countless other examples, is deliberately used to move into the Left\u2019s preferred arena of judgement \u2014 one where intent and context are meaningless details which fade into insignificance beneath the shadow of one\u2019s \u201clived experience.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Then, words themselves are manipulated to further these objectives. \u201cPublic accommodations\u201d are expanded to include retail stores, online retailers, stadiums, and transportation service providers. The word \u201cstadium\u201d is replaced by \u201cstadium or other place of or establishment that provides exhibition, entertainment, recreation, exercise, amusement, public gathering, or public display,\u201d with \u201cany establishment that provides a good, service, or program\u201d now deemed an appropriate target of \u201canti-discrimination\u201d controls.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>At the same time, the definition of words are twisted further, with sex defined as \u201c<\/span><span>a sex stereotype; pregnancy, childbirth, or a related medical condition; sexual orientation or gender identity; and sex characteristics, including intersex traits.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Finally, there comes the deceit hiding in plain sight: \u201cEquality.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The truth is that there is nothing about the Equality Act which promotes equality in the context of an American system of values. In order for this version of equality to be achieved, foundational principles of the United States must first be sacrificed. And this, frankly, is the entire point.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Equality Act is the Left\u2019s opportunity to beat down those who have scuppered their plans of ideological domination in recent years. It is their chance to punish<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/becerra-tells-congress-he-never-sued-any-nuns-despite-californias-little-sisters-of-the-poor-lawsuit\"><span>The Little Sisters of the Poor<\/span><\/a> <span>for daring to oppose abortion, or to force \u201cdeplorable\u201d<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2018\/06\/04\/605003519\/supreme-court-decides-in-favor-of-baker-over-same-sex-couple-in-cake-shop-case\"><span>bakers<\/span><\/a> <span>or<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/religios-freedeom-win-scotus-invalidates-ruling-hank-berrien\"><span>florists<\/span><\/a> <span>into submission.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>There is nothing \u201cequal\u201d about the Equality Act. The reality is quite the opposite, with the ultimate goal being the destruction of freedom of religion \u2014 one of the foundational pillars of the country\u2019s founding \u2014 in an act of immoral betrayal, telling religious Americans in no uncertain terms that their religious rights are trumped by the unscientific and ever-changing demands of a growing radical Left.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Ian Haworth is an Editor and Writer for The Daily Wire.
