Brian Kemp\u2019s signing of the bill known as <a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/GA\/text\/SB202\/id\/2348602\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SB 202<\/a> into law in March 2021, Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coca-colacompany.com\/media-center\/georgia-voting-legislation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">statement<\/a> insisting the law would \u201cdiminish or deter access to voting,\u201d while claiming the company would shift its focus toward \u201csupporting federal legislation that protects voting access and addresses voter suppression across the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all have a duty to protect everyone\u2019s right to vote, and we will continue to stand up for what is right in Georgia and across the U.S.,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>But Quincey wasn\u2019t the only one to take aim at Georgia\u2019s voting law. Not long after the bill\u2019s passage, President Joe Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/09\/26\/biden-hosts-atlanta-braves-at-white-house-after-pushing-mlb-to-boycott-their-city-for-all-star-game\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">referred<\/a> to the law as \u201cJim Crow on steroids\u201d and called on Major League Baseball to relocate its All-Star Game from Atlanta in protest. The MLB ultimately acquiesced, moving the game to Colorado and costing the state upwards of $100 million in revenue.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Democrats\u2019 slanderous claims, SB 202 does not make it more difficult for Georgians to vote in elections. Among the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/whats-in-the-georgia-voting-law-11617883732\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">changes<\/a> to the state\u2019s election laws are voter ID requirements for absentee voting as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2021\/03\/joe-biden-botches-the-georgia-voting-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">restrictions<\/a> on giving voters gifts or money within 150 feet of a polling place. Early voting is also expanded under the law, with counties now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/whats-in-the-georgia-voting-law-11617883732\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">required<\/a> to \u201coffer two Saturdays of early voting instead of just one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Contrary to the left\u2019s predictions that the law would suppress Georgians\u2019 ability to vote, the state has since experienced record-shattering early voting numbers throughout the 2022 midterms. Ahead of the Nov. 8 election, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger\u2019s office <a href=\"https:\/\/sos.ga.gov\/news\/georgia-voters-post-all-time-record-gubernatorial-early-voting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a> that more than 2.4 million votes had been cast by Nov. 4, compared to the 1.6 million votes that had been cast by the same time in 2018. The runoff election between Democrat Sen. Raphael Warnock and Republican Herschel Walker has also seen <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/12\/05\/georgia-election-integrity-reforms-are-driving-runoff-turnout-not-suppressing-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">record turnout<\/a> for early, in-person voting.<\/p>\n<p> Shawn Fleetwood is a Staff Writer for The Federalist and a graduate of the University of Mary Washington.
