Agents with Secret Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) were reportedly involved.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the reports, a transparency group called Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Secret Service asking for records related to the incident, including reports, telephone logs, and witness statements.<\/p>\n<p>The Secret Service, in its initial April 2021 response, said it located records and would process them. But more than a year later, in October, it said the response was sent in error and that the agency had never actually located any responsive records.<\/p>\n<p>The third change came in a recent court filing that was lodged after Judicial Watch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/department-of-homeland-security-sued-over-details-on-alleged-hunter-biden-gun-incident_4748240.html\">sued over the matter<\/a>. The Secret Service now says more than 100 records have been located.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince the Complaint was filed, the Parties have conferred about the intended scope of Judicial Watch\u2019s FOIA request and, in response, USSS has run supplemental searches and located over 100 records, totaling over 400 pages, potentially responsive to Judicial Watch\u2019s request under the clarified understanding of that request,\u201d the Secret Service and Judicial Watch said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/23329314-judicial-watch-and-secret-service-joint-report\">a joint case report<\/a> filed on Nov. 10 with the U.S. court in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Secret Service\u2019s changing story on records raises additional questions about its role in the Hunter Biden gun incident,\u201d Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement. \u201cOne thing is clear, Judicial Watch\u2019s persistence means the public may get records that the Secret Service suggested didn\u2019t exist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Secret Service did not respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The Secret Service told The Epoch Times in September, in response to a FOIA request similar to the one from Judicial Watch, that it \u201csearched all Program Offices that were likely to contain potentially responsive records, and no records were located.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, a Secret Service spokesperson told The Epoch Times via email that the agency \u201cmaintains there was no Secret Service involvement in the matter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ATF has already acknowledged having records of the incident, but a judge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/judge-blocks-agency-from-releasing-possible-records-for-hunter-biden-gun-purchase_4733025.html\">ruled<\/a> that the agency did not have to disclose them.<\/p>\n<h2>Reports<\/h2>\n<p>The Blaze, citing an anonymous source, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblaze.com\/news\/source-hunter-bidens-gun-was-taken-by-hallie-biden-in-2018-thrown-into-a-supermarket-garbage-can-went-missing-and-no-arrests-were-made\">reported in 2018<\/a> that in October of that year, Hallie Biden\u2014the widow of Hunter\u2019s brother, Beau\u2014took Hunter Biden\u2019s gun and put it in a garbage can outside of a supermarket.\u00a0The Delaware State Police told the outlet that the case was referred to the Delaware Department of Justice.<\/p>\n<p>The Delaware State Police rejected a request for records on the matter and the department of justice has not returned an inquiry.<\/p>\n<p>Agents with the Secret Service and ATF visited the gun store from which Hunter Biden purchased the gun in question, according to The Blaze.<\/p>\n<p>Politico, citing a police report and anonymous sources, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/03\/25\/sources-secret-service-inserted-itself-into-case-of-hunter-bidens-gun-477879\">reported in 2021<\/a> that the gun was disposed of near Janssen\u2019s Market in Greenville, prompting calls from two people, including the store\u2019s general manager.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe complied with the police and gave them whatever security footage we could,\u201d Paula Janssen, the general manager, told the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>Police questioned both Hallie Biden and Hunter Biden. When the latter was asked if the gun had been used in a crime, Hunter Biden \u201cbecame very agitated with me and asked me if I was intentionally trying to make him mad,\u201d a police officer wrote. Hunter Biden also said he believed Hallie Biden thought he was going to commit suicide.<\/p>\n<p>Text messages from Hunter Biden\u2019s laptop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/texts-reveal-hunter-biden-meltdown-discarded-gun-incident\">reportedly showed<\/a> that he was irate when he learned what Hallie Biden had done, telling her that she had \u201chumiliate[d] me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sorry, I just want you safe. That was not safe,\u201d she replied, adding that it was in a car that was unlocked with the windows down. \u201cAnd I\u2019m scared you would use it,\u201d she also said.<\/p>\n<p>A lawyer for Hunter Biden did not respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<h2>Next Steps<\/h2>\n<p>Government lawyers had claimed that the complaint lacked merit, but now say they\u2019ll produce the documents they\u2019ve identified, pending communication with the Executive Branch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUSSS will complete its initial processing of all potentially responsive records by January 9, 2023, and send records out for any necessary consultations with other Executive Branch entities by that date. If any responsive, non-exempt records do not require consultation, USSS will produce those records to Plaintiff by January 9th.
