These are just Republican talking points<\/em>. New York\u2019s Governor even <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/kathy-hochul-handwaves-crime-concerns-i-dont-know-why-thats-so-important-to-you\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expressed disbelief<\/a> as to why anyone would even bring it up. Perhaps someone should point these people to the current situation in the City of Brotherly Love. (A tragically hilarious name given the current circumstances.) If things are going so well, why would the City Council vote to make the 10 pm curfew that was in place for almost everyone under the age of 18 all summer permanent? And yet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/philadelphia\/news\/philadelphia-city-council-approves-permanent-10-pm-curfew\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">that\u2019s what happened on Thursday<\/a> and one of the Democrats who voted in favor of the measure specifically called out the city\u2019s rampant crime rates and the threat crime poses to her own child as the reason. (CBS Philadelphia)<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Philadelphia\u2019s summertime curfew could soon become permanent. City council passed a bill Thursday afternoon that would make the summer curfew permanent.<\/p>\n<p>Councilmember Katherine Gilmore Richardson proposed the legislation and is a mother herself.<\/p>\n<p>Gilmore Richardson says her goal is to protect Philadelphia\u2019s young people who all too often fall victim to the city\u2019s violence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are too many young people who have been involved in crime or criminal incidents simply because they have been out late at night,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The curfew was put in place because more crime is committed under the cover of darkness. The curfew itself should be seen as a tacit admission that Philadelphia is simply too dangerous and the government is unable to keep its residents safe. Moving to make the curfew permanent is essentially another admission that they can\u2019t (or won\u2019t) do anything about it and things won\u2019t be getting better any time soon.<\/p>\n<p>You didn\u2019t need a rocket scientist to figure this out. Wawa has been <a href=\"https:\/\/hotair.com\/jazz-shaw\/2022\/10\/24\/more-wawa-closures-in-philly-amid-democrats-crime-wave-n505399\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shutting down its stores<\/a> in Philadelphia because they are robbed too often to be profitable and their employees are not safe while working there. Much of the blame is properly being placed on the shoulders of Philly\u2019s soft-on-crime DA, Larry Krasner. That would be the same District Attorney who was <a href=\"https:\/\/hotair.com\/jazz-shaw\/2022\/11\/17\/philly-soft-on-crime-da-krasner-impeached-n511700\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recently impeached<\/a> by the state legislature. Of course, Krasner continues to insist that none of this is his responsibility, despite the fact that he released a convicted murderer last year who is now <a href=\"https:\/\/hotair.com\/john-s-2\/2022\/10\/21\/larry-krasners-office-freed-a-convicted-murderer-last-year-who-is-now-wanted-for-another-murder-n505090\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wanted for yet another murder<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Of course Philadelphia is ridiculously dangerous. And it\u2019s a self-inflicted wound for the most part. But it\u2019s also worth noting that the curfew hasn\u2019t done much to put a dent in the crime rates and extending it likely won\u2019t have any significant positive effect either. That\u2019s because curfews are much the same as gun control laws and \u201cgun-free zones.\u201d The only people who pay any attention to them are law-abiding residents. The gang bangers and other criminals aren\u2019t going to change their plans for the evening just because they might be given a ticket for violating the curfew.<\/p>\n<p>If you want more proof of that concept, look no further than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox29.com\/news\/police-suspect-wanted-for-shooting-ppa-officer-may-be-linked-to-shooting-in-the-bronx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this story<\/a>. The City Council had barely finished their meeting where they moved to extend the curfew when a Philly Parking Authority Officer was shot in the head in the downtown area. (Fox News Philadelphia)<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Police are exploring the possibility that a suspect wanted for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox29.com\/news\/video-reward-offered-info-suspect-shot-philadelphia-parking-authority-officer-police-say\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shooting a Philadelphia Parking Authority Officer<\/a>\u00a0is connected to a shooting at a gas station in The Bronx days earlier.<\/p>\n<p>The Philadelphia Police Department shared side-by-side security camera footage of the incidents that both show the suspect dressed in a blue hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities say on Nov. 22, a gunman at a Sunoco gas station on Boston Road in The Bronx shot an employee in the head and ran from the scene.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>They still haven\u2019t tracked down the shooter, though he may be an import from New York City.
