[The] delivery of how we get information is quite different,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that the internet is a major influence on how people learn about sexuality. It\u2019s certainly not as accessible, certainly not as instantaneous. So there\u2019s a lot of information that is useful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The interviewer interrupted Taverner and said, \u201csome of it is wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of it is wrong, a lot of it is wrong,\u201d Taverner said. \u201cBut there\u2019s good stuff out there as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Taverner failed to clarify what he meant, but he did say in a 2021 interview that sex educators never wanted pornography to be the primary source of sex education, and the instruction needs to adapt to modern times.<\/p>\n<p>He also argues that teaching about pornography is similar to instructing children on how to use a condom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a resistance to\u2026 if we talk about porn, [some think] is it going to make people want to watch it? Which is the same faulty kind of premise as if we teach about condoms, it\u2019s going to make people want to have sex with condoms or maybe that\u2019s not a bad thing,\u201d the sex educator continued.<\/p>\n<p>He added that porn literacy would help students clarify their values on the topic and would meet \u201cpeople where they are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGetting back to meeting people where they are, if this is what they\u2019re doing with their cell phones and tablets and their laptops, then we need to shift our education and stop doing the banana on a condom and think that, you know, we\u2019ve done our thing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo we need to present opportunities for young people to think about\u2026, for example, their values. You know, let\u2019s do an opinion activity. Let\u2019s do the ethics of porn. And that\u2019s not to say that there\u2019s a right answer .\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the past, Taverner has said some parts of comprehensive sexuality education should begin in kindergarten.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSexuality education is not isolated to a particular point in a person\u2019s life, it\u2019s a continuous process.
