The company struggled to mass produce its Model 3 sedan in 2017, the same year Musk introduced plans for the electric semi, The Wall Street Journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/tesla-set-to-deliver-semi-truck-to-pepsico-expanding-beyond-passenger-vehicles-11669899360?mod=hp_lista_pos2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla says the semi can travel 500 miles on a single charge and recharge up to 70% within 30 minutes, cutting costs for customers compared to diesel trucks. The semi also features a unique \u201ccentral seating position\u201d that puts the driver in the middle of the cab.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCharging with electricity is approximately 2.5 times cheaper per mile than refueling with diesel,\u201d Tesla says on its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tesla.com\/semi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a>. \u201cOperators can see estimated fuel savings of up to $200,000 within their first three years of ownership. With remote diagnostics, over-the-air software updates and fewer moving parts to maintain, operators will spend less time at service centers and more time on the road.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tesla\u2019s long-delayed jump into the commercial vehicle market comes as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/bidens-inflation-bill-made-7500-electric-vehicle-tax-credits-ford-and-gm-just-raised-their-prices-by-the-same-amount\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">federal<\/a> government and some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/two-more-states-follow-californias-ban-on-new-gas-cars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">states<\/a> push for an electric vehicle (EV) future. In August, President Joe Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act, which includes tax credits for commercial EVs of up to $40,000. Starting in 2023 and continuing for 10 years, business owners can receive the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/10\/21\/why-an-electric-vehicle-tax-credit-for-business-owners-may-be-relatively-easy-to-get.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tax credit<\/a> if they purchase trucks that meet the Biden administration\u2019s EV standards.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla Board Chair Robyn Denholm said the company will only make 100 electric semis before the end of this year, but in October, Musk said he wants to produce 50,000 semis in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs I think everyone knows at this point, it takes about a year to ramp up production. So, we expect to see significant \u2014 we\u2019re tentatively aiming for 50,000 units in 2024 for Tesla Semi in North America,\u201d Musk remarked during a third-quarter earnings call in October, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/lifestyle\/first-tesla-semis-delivered-thursday\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according<\/a> to Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Tesla board members discussed their concern over their CEO\u2019s time and attention being diverted away from the car company after the billionaire purchased Twitter in a $44 billion deal. Musk said he plans to \u201creduce [his] time at Twitter and find somebody else to run Twitter over time\u201d as Tesla\u2019s stock has tumbled nearly 45% this year.<\/p>\n<p>PepsiCo said the first delivery of the all-electric Tesla Semis will be used at a Frito-Lay plant in Modesto, California, and a PepsiCo plant in Sacramento, California. Neither Tesla nor PepsiCo revealed how many semis will be a part of the deal.
