About a third of Luzerne\u2019s precincts were out of ballot paper as early as 9 a.m. and turning away voters for several hours, according to election observers affiliated with the Committee on House Administration, a U.S. congressional committee that helps oversee elections. As a result, thousands of Luzerne County residents were <a href=\"https:\/\/republicans-cha.house.gov\/sites\/republicans.cha.house.gov\/files\/documents\/Letter%20to%20Luzerne%20County,%20PA,%20Elections%20Board%20re%20General%20Election%20Issues%20(Nov%2016%202022).pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">affected<\/a> and likely did not cast ballots.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cState and local elections officials were warned for months about the potential of a ballot paper shortage, and it\u2019s unacceptable that Luzerne County didn\u2019t heed those warnings,\u201d Republican Rep. Rodney Davis, the ranking member of the Committee on House Administration, told The Federalist. \u201cWhat we saw play out as early as 9 [a.m.] on Election Day in nearly one-third of precincts was the worst case scenario, as thousands of voters were disenfranchised and unable to cast their ballots\u2014true voter suppression.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a letter to the chair of Luzerne County\u2019s elections board last month, Davis noted that \u201cbased on testimony offered at this week\u2019s public meeting, the shortage was so acute that after polls were effectively closed for a period of time, several precinct locations instructed voters to purchase reams of standard copier paper from office supply stores so that the polling location could operate in some fashion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Because Luzerne\u2019s polling places were effectively closed for several hours, a judge ruled they had to stay open <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnep.com\/article\/news\/local\/luzerne-county\/voting-problems-reported-in-luzerne-county-election-day-voting-machines-paper\/523-61854cab-31e2-42c6-8a63-091004544395\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">for two extra hours<\/a> on Election Day. The next day, the Luzerne county manager <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnep.com\/article\/news\/local\/luzerne-county\/luzerne-county-manager-resigns-following-voting-paper-problems-randy-robertson-wnep-newswatch16-polling\/523-e99d74da-0c7a-4b99-acd1-b7b04876a5d1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced his resignation<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnep.com\/article\/news\/local\/luzerne-county\/election-board-fails-to-certify-luzerne-county-election-day-ballots-paper-machines-counting\/523-515518be-9940-4845-a73f-3c2a8240e661\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hundreds<\/a> of Luzerne voters expressed their frustration with how the county handled Election Day in public meetings following the election. And as a result of the countless errors, the elections board voted 2-2 against certifying the election results. Two Republican board members voted against certifying, with two Democrats voting in favor. One Democrat member abstained. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy feeling is I needed a little more information. So, I really didn\u2019t want to say, \u2018Oh, yeah, we\u2019re done with it now.\u2019 I want more information, so I can make a short decision on that it\u2019s right to certify it or to not certify it,\u201d Daniel Schramm, the Democrat elections board member who abstained, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnep.com\/article\/news\/local\/luzerne-county\/election-board-fails-to-certify-luzerne-county-election-day-ballots-paper-machines-counting\/523-515518be-9940-4845-a73f-3c2a8240e661\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> a local news outlet. <\/p>\n<p>By voting not to certify, some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.electionreturns.pa.gov\/General\/CountyResults?countyName=Luzerne&#038;ElectionID=undefined&#038;ElectionType=G&#038;IsActive=undefined\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">117,000<\/a> votes could be left out of Pennsylvania\u2019s official tally for the 2022 midterms (thankfully, Luzerne\u2019s district attorney is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spotlightpa.org\/news\/2022\/11\/pa-election-2022-luzerne-county-paper-shortage-da-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">investigating<\/a> the election mishaps whether or not the results are certified).<\/p>\n<p>But no sooner did Schramm signal his reluctance to certify Luzerne\u2019s election than prominent Democrat operative (and Russian collusion peddler)\u00a0Marc Elias <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/11\/28\/lawsuits-certifying-midterm-election-results-2022-00070992\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">descended<\/a> upon the unsuspecting board member, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/news-alerts\/luzerne-county-pennsylvania-sued-for-failing-to-certify-election-results\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">filing a lawsuit<\/a> to compel the<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After refusing to certify its general election results due to widespread failures that potentially disenfranchised voters, the board of elections for Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, has flip-flopped and voted to certify its election results anyway \u2014 after pressure from a lawsuit by known Democrat election meddler Marc Elias.
