According to the Internal Revenue Service\u2019s internal watchdog, that\u2019s not true.<\/p>\n<p>The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration determined that the IRS randomly selected Comey and McCabe for audits of their tax returns from 2017 and 2019 as part of a program the IRS uses to refine its technology, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tigta.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/reports\/2022-12\/2023ieR002fr.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a report<\/a> released Thursday. The watchdog found no evidence of malfeasance on the part of Trump or any Trump-appointed officials.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the latest media-propelled narrative disproved by federal watchdogs. The Department of Homeland Security\u2019s inspector general <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/national-security\/zero-horsepower-media-driven-scandal-leaves-border-patrol-agents-without-critical-tool\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exonerated<\/a> border patrol agents who were accused in the liberal media of whipping Haitian migrants as they crossed into the United States from Mexico. The Justice Department\u2019s inspector general <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/storage\/120919-examination.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">debunked<\/a> the infamous Steele dossier, which the media cited as evidence that the Trump campaign conspired with Russia to influence the 2016 election.<\/p>\n<p>The audits of Comey and McCabe, which the <em>New York Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/07\/06\/us\/politics\/comey-mccabe-irs-audits.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> on July 6, fed the narrative that Trump sought revenge on Comey and McCabe for opening an investigation into his campaign in 2016. According to the <em>Times<\/em>, Comey and McCabe were subject to &#8220;intensive&#8221; audits of their tax returns from 2017 and 2019.
