The ACLU Washington Executive Director Michele Storms <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu-wa.org\/pages\/we-are-indigenous-land-letter-michele-storms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cAs we commemorate Indigenous Peoples\u2019 Day this year, I invite all of us to understand more deeply than ever before that we live, work, and play on the occupied territory of Indigenous Peoples.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Now that is interesting. According to mainstream theories, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.neh.gov\/humanities\/2014\/marchapril\/feature\/the-first-americans#:~:text=In%20the%201970s%2C%20college%20students,known%20collectively%20as%20Clovis%20people.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first people<\/a> to inhabit this land mass migrated across a land bridge between Alaska and Siberia some 13,000 years ago.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">There is even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/the-first-americans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">some speculation<\/a> in the archaeology community that the first inhabitants of North America came over long before this particular group to the tune of some 25,000 years ago. Curious how many indigenous people today can confidently trace their roots to these OGs of native-ness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Based on what the ACLU is trying to peddle, if you can\u2019t trace your ancestors to the original inhabitants of where you currently reside, you are akin to the evil conquerors of the land. But the reality is we more than likely can all trace our genealogy back to conquerors and conquered.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Repeating it 10 times in caps does not make it true. Before the natives you refer to owned it, another group did. Before them a group predating modern genetics owned it. But we still see it; look to the Middle East and eastern Europe. Does this mean we should all be apologizing to one another for our ancestor\u2019s sins?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The ACLU Virginia chapter thinks so. Norfolk was founded on land that once belonged to the Nansemond Indian Nation.<\/p>\n<p>Many Native tribes are still here in VA. But this obsession with labeling history and, in particular, focusing solely on the evils inflicted by white men in history is getting out of hand.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Glass Houses<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It has become easy to forget that war, slavery, and lust for power are not unique to one race. For example, Native Americans often fought among the tribes, and often those battles were fought over land possession.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Some southern Native Americans even <a href=\"http:\/\/recordsofrights.org\/events\/122\/slavery-in-indian-territory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dabbled<\/a> in the slave trade, buying and selling African slaves just as the colonists had done.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>And as Dee Brown recounts in her seminal <em>Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee<\/em>, some native tribes were often engaged in the kidnap and enslavement of Mexicans.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">So is everyone. Nor should we. Besides the fact that I think, in general, we\u2019ve just all become a bit dumber with each generation, I believe we\u2019ve allowed ourselves to get addicted to the feeling of helplessness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">See, if you fit the minority narrative of the left, then automatically, no matter what you\u2019ve done or not done for that matter with your life, you can\u2019t be held responsible for your actions or inactions, I suppose. You were born a victim; you always will be a victim; it\u2019s in your blood and your skin, so there is no point in trying.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It\u2019s a rather freeing concept when you think about it\u2014no need to try for anything, which means no need to feel the all-important sting of failure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If you are white, no matter what you believe in your heart and mind, you will always be a racist, conqueror, or oppressor because it\u2019s in your blood and your skin. And what a luscious feeling of masochistic release to proclaim to the world how bad you feel for being white.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Give me a break. Don\u2019t be proud to be an American because if you\u2019re white, you stole this country from the Native Americans.
