That\u2019s up from the $649,603 that <em>China Daily<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/efile.fara.gov\/docs\/3457-Supplemental-Statement-20220527-36.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/efile.fara.gov\/docs\/3457-Supplemental-Statement-20220527-36.pdf&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1669915874606000&#038;usg=AOvVaw21G4Y6cf_7ht3a3kmriz8_\">paid<\/a> the magazine in the previous six month period. Since 2020, <em>Time<\/em> has published articles in its print magazine and online promoting Chinese culture, Beijing\u2019s climate change initiatives, and China\u2019s technology as part of a content-sharing deal with <em>China Daily<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Benioff, a prominent Democratic donor who visited President Joe Biden with his family at the White House earlier this year, began an aggressive push into the Chinese market soon after buying <em>Time<\/em> in 2018. The Department of Justice in 2020 required <em>China Daily<\/em> and other state-controlled media agencies to begin disclosing details of their content-sharing deals with American outlets. According to the latest filings, <em>China Daily<\/em> increased payments to <em>Time<\/em> as the propaganda agency cut spending in four other outlets\u2014<em>USA Today<\/em>, <em>Foreign Policy<\/em>, <em>Financial Times<\/em>, and the <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em>\u2014from $900,540 to $586,860.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the <em>China Daily<\/em> articles at <em>Time<\/em> are human interest stories about life and culture in China. But others promote Chinese state-owned companies that the United States has blacklisted for aiding China\u2019s military and its repressive surveillance state.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, <em>Time<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/media\/china-time-americas-iconic-magazine-shills-for-china-and-doesnt-disclose-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/media\/china-time-americas-iconic-magazine-shills-for-china-and-doesnt-disclose-it\/&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1669915874606000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2-tqcCGx9R9Vq0fdBRCHVB\">published<\/a> a story which touted technology from DJI, a Chinese drone maker that the United States government has blacklisted over its surveillance of Uyghurs. The billionaire, who has been dubbed &#8220;Tech\u2019s Woke CEO,&#8221; has been a vocal critic of conservative policies at home while ignoring China\u2019s dismal human rights record. In 2019, he announced that Salesforce would no longer do business with any company that sells certain types of firearms or ammunition magazines.
