But what if victims didn\u2019t even realize they were being abused? Unfortunately, this tilted power dynamic has become a reality through the abusers\u2019 dream drug: chemical abortion pills. The recent story of a Texas woman being allegedly secretly fed these pills by her husband is a key example.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/texas-lawyer-charged-allegedly-drugging-pregnant-wife-abortion-pill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">case<\/a> that horrified the nation earlier this month, a young Houston attorney, Mason Herring, was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/texas-man-mason-herring-accused-of-slipping-abortion-drug-in-wifes-drinks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">indicted<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2022\/nov\/14\/texas-mason-herring-abortion-drug-wife-drink-criminal-charges\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">two felony accounts<\/a>\u00a0(assaulting a pregnant woman and \u201cassault \u2014 forced induced to have an abortion\u201d) after he was accused of spiking his pregnant wife\u2019s water with the chemical abortion drug misoprostol. According to\u00a0court documents, Herring\u2019s wife testified that he was displeased with her pregnancy and began telling her to stay hydrated, repeatedly offering her drinks that appeared to have been tampered with.<\/p>\n<p>Upon drinking the first cup \u2014 a glass of water she noticed afterward was \u201ccloudy\u201d \u2014 Herring\u2019s wife said she became severely ill, consequently refusing further drinks and questioning him on why the water had been murky. According to his wife, Herring claimed the cup or the pipes were dirty. But, she testified, she later found a dirty secret \u2014 the packaging for misoprostol \u2014 in the trash. Their child was later born prematurely (likely due to the spiked water), but\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abc13.com\/houston-abortion-case-attorney-mason-herring-accused-of-forcing-induction-to-have-an\/12431216\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reports indicate<\/a>\u00a0it was a healthy delivery, despite Herring\u2019s alleged efforts to ensure otherwise.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, while this one particular story made headlines in corporate media (although not in The New York Times or on CNN\u2019s website, both of which ignored it completely), it is not an isolated incident. Abusers in homes across the nation and worldwide have utilized chemical abortion pills in the same way that Herring allegedly did. The vehicle of disguise, however, does change. Women have had deadly abortion pills slipped into their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/health\/a19974681\/man-spikes-girlfriends-drink-with-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tea<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/hp\/front\/abortion-doctor-guilty-of-spiking-pregnant-lover-s-drinks-6738363.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Starbucks<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10755239\/Civil-servant-told-mistress-stop-taking-pill-laced-juice-abortion-drug.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">orange juice<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/id\/wbna23358791\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">yogurt<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-2569555\/Man-30-charged-murder-lacing-pregnant-girlfriends-pancakes-abortion-inducing-drug.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pancakes<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/crime\/man-laced-pregnant-wife-s-meals-with-abortion-pills-789990.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sandwiches, and cereal<\/a>. In another case, an abuser lied to his partner about what the life-ending drug was, saying it was an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tampabay.com\/news\/courts\/as-doctors-son-serves-time-in-abortion-pill-case-a-fight-for-damages-gains\/2212193\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">antibiotic<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If it\u2019s something a woman can ingest without suspicion, it can be used as a cover-up. Abusers aren\u2019t picky \u2014 just as long as it kills their inconvenience.<\/p>\n<p>While Herring\u2019s wife did eventually deliver their healthy (albeit premature) baby, this does not appear to be the norm in these cases. Instead, when abusers deceitfully feed women chemical abortion pills, they usually end at least one life \u2014 if not two, as they take zero regard for the mother\u2019s wellness. Her life and health are also endangered by these same pills as they can result in maternal\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/01\/12\/injury-infertility-and-death-from-chemical-abortions-are-a-ok-with-the-fda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">injury, infertility, and death<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The overwhelming evidence is clear: Abusers do take advantage of chemical abortion pills, and they are a powerful evil in their hands, capable of taking multiple lives.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Millennials and Gen Z understand those risks.
