It\u2019s one of the co-hosts of \u2018CNN This Morning,\u2019 Donald Lemon,\u201d Colbert began, introducing the CNN anchor. \u201cNow, our old buddy Chris Licht, he used to stand right over there where \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho? Who is it?\u201d Lemon asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChris Licht, he is the CEO of CNN. He\u2019s your boss now,\u201d Colbert continued. \u201cHe used to stand right over there. He\u2019d stand right over there and hit the applause sign before we\u2019d go to commercial. Basically, all his job was. And now he\u2019s got a really hard job, which is, which is running CNN. The word on the street is that you guys aren\u2019t allowed to be liberal anymore. Is that, is that the case?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think we ever were liberal,\u201d Lemon shot back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d Colbert appeared to be confused.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, I don\u2019t think we ever were,\u201d Lemon insisted.<\/p>\n<p>Colbert pushed back, saying that it wasn\u2019t really him saying that Licht wasn\u2019t <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/that-is-bulls-cnn-head-honcho-says-hes-not-interested-in-being-centrist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">allowing anchors<\/a> to be liberal: \u201cThat\u2019s the people out there saying that he\u2019s not letting you be liberal anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, listen, I think that, I think what Chris is saying is that he wants Republicans, sensible Republicans,\u201d Lemon explained, arguing that the new direction was more about keeping people \u201ccomfortable\u201d than about choosing a side. \u201cBut also, by the nature of what we do, we have to hold people to account. And so that doesn\u2019t necessarily mean that we\u2019re going liberal or conservative or whatever. It just means that we are doing what we do. And that\u2019s good journalism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo accountable, not confrontational,\u201d Colbert posited.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think sometimes one must be confrontational,\u201d Lemon argued, going on to explain that the real move was away from being overtly hateful and attacking each other.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook, I don\u2019t think that a conversation on television should be any different than a conversation in person. Listen, I have, I have confrontational conversations with people I love and I have uncomfortable conversations with people I love. And I think it\u2019s necessary,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I think it\u2019s also necessary to to do that on television, on CNN. And then but you can do that without being vitriolic. I think not being vitriolic is maybe a better way of putting it. But you can do that and not have vitriol. And as people say, you can disagree without being disagreeable.
