The public deserves to know what really happened \u2026<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Elon Musk (@elonmusk) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1597336812732575744?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 28, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Musk responded to a user earlier this month who tweeted, \u201cRaise your hand if you think @ElonMusk should make public all internal discussions about the decision to censor the @NYPost\u2019s story on Hunter Biden\u2019s laptop before the 2020 Election in the interest of Transparency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is necessary to restore public trust,\u201d Musk replied.<\/p>\n<p>The New York Post first reported messages from Biden\u2019s laptop in October 2020, weeks before a presidential election. Social media giants, including Twitter, cracked down on the story to prevent its spread. Current and former national security officials <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/reminder-these-50-intelligence-officers-claimed-without-evidence-that-new-york-posts-hunter-biden-story-was-russian-disinformation\">claimed<\/a> at the time that the Biden story was likely Russian disinformation and a veiled attempt from Moscow to intervene in U.S. elections.<\/p>\n<p>Media outlets such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/hunter-bidens-laptop-is-100-authentic-forensic-examination-concludes\">The Washington Examiner<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/cbs-finally-admits-hunters-laptop-is-real-more-than-two-years-after-the-fact\">CBS News<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/the-rest-of-the-country-is-starting-to-open-their-eyes-major-outlets-confirm-contents-of-hunters-laptop\">The New York Times, and The Washington Post<\/a> have confirmed the laptop\u2019s contents and messages, in part regarding foreign business deals Hunter Biden worked on in Ukraine, China, and elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter initially banned the Post\u2019s story on the social media platform. Users were blocked from posting the link to the story or direct messaging it to other users. Twitter also locked the Post\u2019s account for weeks, saying that the Post\u2019s story violated Twitter\u2019s rules against \u201chacked materials\u201d despite lacking evidence that the materials were obtained through hacking.<\/p>\n<p>Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey later admitted that Twitter made a mistake in taking action against the Post over its Biden laptop story.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were called here today because of an enforcement decision we made against the New York Post based on a policy we created in 2018 to prevent Twitter from being used to spread hacked materials. This resulted in us blocking people from sharing a New York Post article publicly or privately,\u201d Dorsey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/twitter-ceo-admits-his-company-was-wrong-to-censor-hunter-biden-story\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in November 2020 testimony to Congress. \u201cWe made a quick interpretation using no other evidence that the materials in the article were obtained through hacking, and according to our policy, we blocked them from being spread.
