Version: 4.0.47--><p>Thomas Liddy, Maricopa County\u2019s chief civil division attorney, responded Sunday to a letter from\u00a0Arizona\u2019s outgoing Attorney General Mark Brnovich ordering county officials to submit a report on its handling of the 2022 election.<\/p>\n<p>Maricopa County, one of the most populous counties in the nation, had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/arizona-two-counties-delay-election-certification-as-ag-issues-letter-concerning-statutory-violations-in-maricopa-county\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">notable problems<\/a> during the November 8 election, including printer and tabulation machine-related issues in at least 70 of the county\u2019s 223 polling locations.<\/p>\n<p>Liddy conceded in the letter that the county had issues on Election Day, but claimed not a single voter was disenfranchised, writing that \u201cevery lawful voter was still able to cast his or her ballot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo voter was disenfranchised because of the difficulty the County experienced with some of its printers,\u201d Liddy <a href=\"https:\/\/elections.maricopa.gov\/asset\/jcr:474f2301-1ff1-476d-a7fa-08945131f86c\/LTR-2022.11.27-Liddy-to-Wright-FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claimed<\/a>. \u201cEvery voter was provided a ballot by which he or she could record their votes, and all such ballots cast by lawful voters were tabulated, whether in the vote center or at the Maricopa County Tabulation and Election Center.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe printing issues, leading to precinct-based tabulators being unable to tabulate some of the votes cast, was regrettable,\u201d the attorney added. \u201cBut it did not violate the uniformity statutes, and any suggestion that it did is unfounded.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The day after Liddy\u2019s letter was sent to the AG\u2019s office, Maricopa County\u2019s\u00a0Board of Supervisors approved the canvass of the 2022 general election after taking on comments from the public, which <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KariLake\/status\/1597302386577416197\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">included<\/a> upset voters and poll observers.<\/p>\n<p>Republican gubernatorial candidate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/kari-lake\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kari Lake<\/a>\u00a0and her team have previously\u00a0raised issue with Liddy.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We&#8217;ve asked Maricopa County for answers. <\/p>\n<p>This is what we get in return.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ENKq4hTnMc\">pic.twitter.com\/ENKq4hTnMc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kari Lake War Room (@KariLakeWarRoom) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KariLakeWarRoom\/status\/1593726111338225664?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 18, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The letter from Brnovich\u2019s office said\u00a0there is evidence, including first-hand witness accounts, of \u201cstatutory violations\u201d in the contest, which Katie Hobbs oversees as secretary of state. Hobbs, a Democrat, is the projected winner of the Arizona gubernatorial contest against Lake.<\/p>\n<p>Lake last week filed a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/kari-lake-maricopa-county-lawsuit-arizona-governors-race-no-concession\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lawsuit<\/a>\u00a0against Maricopa County officials, similarly alleging election law violations. The Republican is also demanding records related to the Election Day printer issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe filing today was basically just a way for the courts to pressure Maricopa County into giving us public records we have been asking for,\u201d Lake <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KariLake\/status\/1595580731392110592\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The candidate blasted county officials over the treatment of \u201cElection Day voters,\u201d which included those printer issues and \u201cthree-hour lines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot allow an election like this to stand,\u201d Lake asserted.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican National Committee (RNC) and Arizona attorney general candidate Abe Hamadeh a day earlier filed a lawsuit in State Superior Court in Maricopa County against election officials, alleging \u201ca host of errors and inaccuracies\u201d during the 2022 election process, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/see-you-in-court-rnc-ag-candidate-sue-election-officials-in-arizona-over-alleged-errors-and-inaccuracies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPervasive errors by our election officials resulted in the disenfranchisement of countless Arizonans who had their voices silenced,\u201d Hamadeh said in a statement. \u201cArizonans deserve to have an election system that is transparent and fair and right now we have neither.
