Corrin said recently that awards shows should reflect the current times, which means changing the \u201cbest actor\u201d and \u201cbest actress\u201d categories into something different.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think the categories are inclusive enough at the moment,\u201d Corrin told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/entertainment-arts-63741519\">BBC News<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s about everyone being able to feel acknowledged and represented.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe conversation needs to be about having more representation in the material itself, in the content that we are seeing for nonbinary people, for queer people, for trans people, because then I think that will change a lot,\u201d Corrin said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen those parts come up, meaning more people and more actors are playing those roles, then I think there will be more of an urgency with which these questions will be addressed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Corrin went on to say that she has \u201chope for a future\u201d when neutral awards categories are adopted across the board.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s difficult for me at the moment trying to justify in my head being non-binary and being nominated in female categories,\u201d Corrin continued. \u201cWhen it comes to categories, do we need to make it specific as to whether you\u2019re being nominated for a female role or a male role?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The changes the \u201cCrown\u201d star requested are already happening in some places. A spokesperson for the BAFTA awards told BBC they were \u201cengaged in proactive and thoughtful consultation on this subject.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rumor has it that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, host of the Oscars, might also be changing to gender-neutral categories.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Grammys changed to gender-neutral in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The Brit Awards also swapped out male and female solo categories into an artist of the year category in 2022. But when the singer Adele won, her acceptance speech made it clear she was critical of the change.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI understand why the name of this award has changed, but I really love being a woman and being a female artist. I do. I\u2019m really proud of us,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/adele-faces-backlash-for-saying-she-loves-being-a-woman-at-gender-neutral-awards-show\">she said<\/a> at the time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Oscars also changed the description of a trans-identifying star on its website. \u201cEllen Page\u201d on Oscars.org is now listed as \u201cElliot Page\u201d with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/ellen-page-erased-from-oscars-imdb-pages-except-in-one-spot\">short explainer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNOTE: Nomination originally submitted under Elliot Page\u2019s prior name.
