Rowling<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Carter, 56, spoke with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/helena-bonham-carter-good-on-young-men-for-finding-middle-aged-beauty-sexy-5smkzmnm3\">The Times<\/a> about her feelings on Depp and Rowling being vilified by both the public and the media.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/cancel-culture\">cancel culture<\/a>. It has become quite hysterical and there\u2019s a kind of witch-hunt and a lack of understanding,\u201d Carter said.<\/p>\n<p>The actress said Depp was \u201ccompletely vindicated\u201d following his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, which ended with a Virginia jury awarding him $10 million. Carter starred in seven movies with Depp, the godfather of Carter\u2019s children she shared with her ex, filmmaker Tim Burton.<\/p>\n<p>The interviewer asked if the trial was indicative of the \u201cpendulum of #MeToo swinging back,\u201d to which Carter replied that she thinks \u201c(Heard) got on that pendulum. That\u2019s the problem with these things \u2013 that people will jump on the bandwagon because it\u2019s the trend and to be the poster girl for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for Rowling, Carter said the backlash is so extreme partly because the billionaire \u201cHarry Potter\u201d author is so famous. She thinks the ire \u201cwouldn\u2019t be so great\u201d if Rowling wasn\u2019t \u201cthe most phenomenal success.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think there\u2019s a lot of envy unfortunately and the need to tear people down that motors a lot of this canceling,\u201d the \u201cSweeney Todd\u201d star said. \u201cIt\u2019s horrendous, a load of bollocks. I think she has been hounded. It\u2019s been taken to the extreme, the judgmentalism of people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s allowed her opinion, particularly if she\u2019s suffered abuse,\u201d Carter continued. \u201cEverybody carries their own history of trauma and forms their opinions from that trauma and you have to respect where people come from and their pain. You don\u2019t all have to agree on everything \u2014 that would be insane and boring. She\u2019s not meaning it aggressively, she\u2019s just saying something out of her own experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The actress\u2019s statements are the opposite of what most actors from the \u201cHarry Potter\u201d franchise are saying. Many of them came out against Rowling, saying they stand with transgender people and simultaneously disavowed the franchise creator for saying she believes in the biological reality of women.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, actor Daniel Radcliffe said it was important to weigh in on the transgender argument and take sides against Rowling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reason I was felt very, very much as though I needed to say something when I did was because, particularly since finishing \u2018Potter,\u2019 I\u2019ve met so many queer and trans kids and young people who had a huge amount of identification with Potter on that,\u201d the 33-year-old actor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/daniel-radcliffe-choosing-sides-against-j-k-rowling-in-trans-argument-was-important\">told<\/a> IndieWire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd so seeing them hurt on that day I was like, I wanted them to know that not everybody in the franchise felt that way,\u201d Radcliffe said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>English actress Helena Bonham Carter is speaking out against cancel culture, especially as it relates to her frequent co-star Johnny Depp and author J.K.
