Yet, for the most part, nobody seems to care in the media or government. When you fail year after year, it becomes the rule versus the exception to fail basic standards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This recent failure marks the fifth year that the Defense Department has failed to meet the audit requirements set by Congress. That\u2019s right, dear reader, your former War Department can\u2019t fully account for all of its assets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">So how bad was it? If you ask the lead money man of the five-sided building, it wasn\u2019t that bad; I mean, it\u2019s only a couple <em>trillion<\/em> dollars worth of stuff that we can\u2019t find, that\u2019s not that bad.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">SecDef Austin&#8217;s DoD has worse problems than a CR. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HouseGOP?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@HouseGOP<\/a> need to de-woke the military, repeal vax mandates, and cut waste, fraud, and abuse that plagues the Pentagon every day.<\/p>\n<p>This comes on top of their fifth failed audit in a row.<\/p>\n<p>Not a good look for the Pentagon.. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ampFW?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ampFW<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/oEiCIkYLD6\">https:\/\/t.co\/oEiCIkYLD6<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 FreedomWorks (@FreedomWorks) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FreedomWorks\/status\/1597241575285088256?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 28, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It\u2019s <em>Bad<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Of the 27 agencies audited within the Department of Defense, only seven received a passing grade. To break down a bit what we mean when we refer to assets, this <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/3740921-defense-department-fails-another-audit-but-makes-progress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">includes everything<\/a> from the below list, which isn\u2019t all-encompassing:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">2.9 million military personnel<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Equipment and weapons<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">19,700 aircraft<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">290 ships<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Buildings and supplies spread out over 4,860 installations and sites worldwide<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The audit also encompasses activities like the DOD health care system, which provides medical care for 9.6 million active-duty retirees and their families. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Suppose you\u2019ve never been to a military base. In that case, they are like small cities with their own police departments, schools, transportation systems, and housing structure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">So these audits don\u2019t just cover our wartime assets, such as bullets and warheads, but it also covers the department\u2019s personnel care structures, such as beans and beds. So not knowing where over 60% of their assets are doesn\u2019t just speak volumes about the DOD\u2019s ability to take the fight to the bad guys but also their ability to care for the American warfighter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>For those with a long memory, this kind of outrageous irresponsibility isn\u2019t new.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Readers may recall a very interesting press conference on September 10, 2001, when Donald Rumsfeld said the Pentagon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?c4905968\/user-clip-secretary-defense-rumsfeld-23-trillion-missing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">couldn\u2019t account for $2.3 trillion.<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">75,000 new IRS agents are going to be scouring your Venmo while the Pentagon loses another $5 trillion dollars.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Starbucks Unions Form Like Voltron (@TweetyMctwat) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TweetyMctwat\/status\/1597027655253053440?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 28, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">What Have We Learned?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Pentagon Chief Financial Officer Mike McCord doesn\u2019t seem too concerned, <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/3740921-defense-department-fails-another-audit-but-makes-progress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stating<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cWe failed to get an A. I would not say that we flunked.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Leave it to a Pentagon bureaucrat to spin being the sole government agency to have never passed an audit as not a complete failure. Because as a taxpayer or a parent of a service member, knowing that the machine built to care for your warfighters is, at best, getting a D- in audit readiness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/thepoliticalinsider.com\/flashback-biden-suggests-veterans-have-helped-impact-growth-of-white-supremacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Flashback: Biden Suggests Veterans Have Helped Impact Growth of White Supremacy<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Mr. McCord went on to say that these failed audits are \u201cteachable moments,\u201d touching on the war in Ukraine, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/pentagon\/2022\/11\/16\/dod-fails-audit-cites-ukraine-as-teachable-moment-in-accountability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">saying<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThat\u2019s to me a really great example of why it matters to get this sort of thing right \u2013 of counting inventory, knowing where it is and knowing when it is arriving.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Now that is an interesting comment; curious how well that will age if the Republicans get their way and can audit the military aid sent to Ukraine. Last year after they failed their fourth consecutive audit, lawmakers attempted to pass the Audit the Pentagon Act of 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This legislation would have penalized the department by returning 1% of the budget to the Treasury if they failed to meet their audits. That\u2019s right, a bipartisan group of Senators dared to penalize the Pentagon for not meeting Congressionally mandated standards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Though one has to ask \u2013 if they don\u2019t know what happened to $2 <em>trillion,\u00a0<\/em>how are they going to notice a 1% cut?<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/thepoliticalinsider.com\/new-pilot-sightings-of-ufos-come-as-rumors-swirl-of-coming-silver-bullet-revelations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Pilot Sightings of UFOs Come As Rumors Swirl of Coming \u2018Silver Bullet\u2019 Revelations<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Senator Bernie Sanders, who cosponsored the bill with Senators Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Ron Wyden (D-Ore), and Mike Lee (R-Utah), <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/554423-senators-introducing-bill-to-penalize-pentagon-for-failed-audits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">argued<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cIf we are serious about spending taxpayer dollars wisely and effectively, we have got to end the absurdity of the Pentagon being the only agency in the federal government that has not passed an independent audit.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The reality is nobody is serious about spending taxpayer dollars wisely, especially when it comes to the defense machine. The Department of Defense is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realcleardefense.com\/2022\/10\/31\/the_annual_military_budget_could_hit_1_trillion_by_2027_862115.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on track<\/a> to receive $1 trillion in its annual budget come 2027.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">As expected, the Pentagon FAILED its 5th audit in a row.<\/p>\n<p>The Pentagon received 2,000ish NFR\u2019s (Notice of Findings &#038; Recommendations, aka weaknesses\/mistakes in the financials that won\u2019t be prevented or even detected) in 2021\u2026 And 2022. Meaning a whole year led to JACK SH*T.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Libertarians: Diligently Plotting (@LibertariansDP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LibertariansDP\/status\/1595766000179372033?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 24, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Real Cost<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If you are still having a hard time wrapping your mind around why the Pentagon must be held to task for its inability and unwillingness to track its funding and assets appropriately, let\u2019s dial it down to what the Pentagon is ultimately tasked to do; take the fight to the bad guys. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The office of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) recently issued a report on how well we allocated funds and executed our mission.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The report didn\u2019t mince words when it came to the effectiveness and efficiency of the $145 billion that was poured into that country, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/washington-secrets\/pentagon-audit-afghan-war-a-145-billion-vietnam-failure\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stating<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThe United States sought to build stable, democratic, representative, gender-sensitive, and accountable Afghan governance institutions. It failed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Touching on the more significant issue behind the failed War Department, professor Chris Mason of the U.S. Army War College was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/washington-secrets\/pentagon-audit-afghan-war-a-145-billion-vietnam-failure\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">quoted<\/a> in the report:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cU.S. efforts to build and sustain Afghanistan\u2019s governing institutions were a total, epic, predestined failure on par with the same efforts and outcome in the Vietnam war, and for the same reasons.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The actual cost of the Pentagon\u2019s ineptitude isn\u2019t just lost assets and taxpayer dollars; it\u2019s American lives and America\u2019s reputation.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Sigar: The U.S. Gov has spent 20 years and $145 billion trying to rebuild Afg. It was considered akin to disgracing the everyday soldier, sailor, airman, and marine.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The botched withdrawal of Afghanistan has finally stirred some in the media, government, and regular population to start questioning the motivations and credibility of the military brass and civilian leaders charged with supporting and defending our great Constitution. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Senator Grassley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2021\/05\/19\/997961646\/the-pentagon-has-never-passed-an-audit-some-senators-want-to-change-that\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pointed out<\/a> last year:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cWe\u2019ve seen example after example of excessive and inefficient spending by the Pentagon, and every dollar squandered is a dollar not being used to support our men and women in uniform.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Who are the actual benefactors of the Pentagon\u2019s gross financial negligence? One merely has to look at the military-industrial complex to see who is supported.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Take the Pentagon\u2019s endeavor to <a href=\"https:\/\/thecradle.co\/Article\/news\/18716\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">increase shipbuilding<\/a> production. They estimate the program to cost $27 billion annually between 2023 and 2052.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">However, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) says that estimate is off by $120 billion overall. Mr. McCord <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/2022\/11\/not-the-progress-i-would-have-hoped-for-pentagon-fails-latest-financial-audit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> of the audits:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThe process is important for us to do, and it is making us get better. It is not making us get better as fast as we want.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The speed is exactly where you want it to be.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Pentagon just had a fifth annual audit.
