The ads included legal documents from a US Supreme Court decision on child porn laws.<\/p>\n<p>. . .<\/p>\n<p>Balenciaga is bringing the case \u201cto seek redress for extensive damages defendants caused in connection with an advertising campaign Balenciaga hired them to produce,\u201d the Manhattan Supreme Court summons alleges.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Many of the initial news stories focused on the inclusion of legal paperwork on the desk of a model, said paperwork including a court opinion in a noted child pornography case when one zoomed in. Period. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DSoHgQLM6O\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pic.twitter.com\/DSoHgQLM6O<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Hoop (@xhoop) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/xhoop\/status\/1594705816623382528?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">November 21, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>One fashion photographer called out the ad campaign\u2019s photographer, noting that he had viewed Instagram stories about the controversy while staying silent, but also pointing out that one photo from the campaign was related to a collaboration between Balenciaga and Adidas \u2014 Adidas being one brand that abruptly parted ways with Kanye West in the wake of his antisemitic remarks, and a brand that\u2019s been silent in the face of child exploitation.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\ude4b\u200d\u2642\ufe0f Instagram story posts about this yesterday which the photographer, Gabriele, definitely saw : <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/nkWsUzCT6m\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pic.twitter.com\/nkWsUzCT6m<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Hoop (@xhoop) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/xhoop\/status\/1595264135016681479?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">November 23, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Shortly after that tweet, the<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/11\/23\/balenciaga-bdsm-teddy-bear-photographer-addresses-backlash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> photographer<\/a>, Gabriele Galimberti, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/ClTmJLKsVzx\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">issued a statement<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cFollowing the hundreds of hate mails and messages I received as a result of the photos I took for the Balenciaga campaign, I feel compelled to make this statement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am not in a position to comment [on] Balenciaga\u2019s choices, but I must stress that I was not entitled in whatsoever manner to neither choose the products, nor the models, nor the combination of the same,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that he was permitted only to light the prepared scene and shoot in his \u201csignature style,\u201d but noted that the \u201cdirection of the campaign and the choice of the objects displayed\u201d were not in his control.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So, whose control were they in? The lawsuit better suss that out, and quickly. One must bear in mind, though, that whatever name Balenciaga or the ad agency eventually provides as the decision-maker is almost certainly not the person ultimately in charge, and just someone all parties involved agreed was expendable \u2014 because Balenciaga\u2019s campaign simply illustrates how Hollywood views children.<\/p>\n<p>Balenciaga also claims that \u201cthe choice of the objects displayed\u201d were not in their control, and that they were not aware that the court docs were part of the campaign:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Balenciaga claims North Six and Des Jardins included the images of the court docs without its knowledge \u2013 which was \u201cmalevolent or, at the very least, extraordinarily reckless,\u201d the filing claims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a result of Defendants\u2019 misconduct, members of the public, including the news media, have falsely and horrifically associated Balenciaga with the repulsive and deeply disturbing subject of the court decision,\u201d the court papers charge. \u201cDefendants are liable to Balenciaga for all harm resulting from this false association.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It\u2019s not just children that Balenciaga exploits in its campaign. At the bare minimum the ad sickeningly makes very young children sexual objects, and is indefensible.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s pretty hilarious that <a href=\"https:\/\/redstate.com\/brandon_morse\/2022\/11\/21\/balenciaga-goes-radio-silent-as-campaign-around-sexualized-children-gets-blasted-by-the-internet-n662050\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Balenciaga quit Twitter before this scandal<\/a>, citing Elon Musk\u2019s takeover as the reason.
