However, that&#8217;s not stopping Americans from traveling over the long holiday weekend.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The national average price for a regular gallon of gasoline is about $3.60, the highest figure for Thanksgiving since AAA has been tracking this data since 2000.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Last year, costs were still elevated, sitting around $3.40, according to AAA. Gas was also selling at that level in 2012. Historically, AAA data shows that the national average is more like $2.50 this time of year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/lifestyle\/sheetz-drops-gas-prices-thanksgiving-week-1-99-gallon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>SHEETZ DROPS GAS PRICES DURING THANKSGIVING WEEK TO $1.99 A GALLON<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Currently, prices are a still a dollar more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/category\/coronavirus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pre-pandemic times<\/a> in 2019. Brown\/AFP via Getty Images) \/ Getty Images)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Prices have already fallen almost 15 cents since last week and should keep declining because of lower demand and failing oil prices, AAA spokesperson Andy Gross told FOX Business.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/energy\/oil-prices-falls-two-month-low-amid-new-covid-cases-china-strengthened-dollar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The oil market<\/a> has been reacting to the rise of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/economy\/china-anti-virus-curbs-spur-fears-global-economic-impact\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coronavirus cases in China<\/a>, which has already caused a slowdown in Chinese business activity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/personal-finance\/gas-prices-drop-holiday-thanksgiving\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>GAS PRICES DROP DRAMATICALLY IN RUN-UP TO THANKSGIVING DAY: REPORTS<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Regardless of the elevated pump prices, Americans have proven that they are still determined to hit the road for the holiday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In fact, 20% more motorists plan to hit the road this year, according to a recent GasBuddy report.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This year, 38% of Americans plan to travel, according to GasBuddy data.
