The losses are the greatest a military power has seen destroyed or captured since the Second World War.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>Russian forces are believed to have seen more than 420 troops killed in the past week, while six tanks and seven APCs were destroyed. In total, nearly 2,900 Russian tanks have been destroyed or captured, along with more than 5,800 APCs.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>Earlier this month, the Kremlin also<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/russia-putin-ukraine-kherson-isw-tanks-retreat-withdrawal-1759084\"><span> lost 24 tanks and 800 men in a single day<\/span><\/a><span> as its defense of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/2022\/11\/russias-kherson-defeat-the-end-of-putins-regime\/\">Kherson<\/a> crumbled. During the week-long fighting for the city, Russian forces<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/vladimir-putin-russian-military-loses-2600-soldiers-list-weapons-within-week-ukraine-says-1760742\"><span> saw 2,600 soldiers killed<\/span><\/a><span>. The Russian death toll since the start of the full-scale invasion is believed to have surpassed 83,000.\u00a0<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>By contrast, Moscow had lost around 15,000 soldiers<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/russia-death-toll-ukraine-already-same-10-years-afghanistan-1708991\"><span> during its nearly decade-long war in Afghanistan<\/span><\/a><span>, and even greater than the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/research\/military\/vietnam-war\/casualty-statistics#:~:text=April%2029%2C%202008.-,The%20Vietnam%20Conflict%20Extract%20Data%20File%20of%20the%20Defense%20Casualty,casualties%20of%20the%20Vietnam%20War.\"><span> 58,220 U.S. soldiers killed in Vietnam.<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Financial Cost of the Ukraine War<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span>It isn\u2019t just the human toll that is so shockingly high. In August, it was reported that the war was<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.israelhayom.com\/2022\/08\/22\/moscow-is-having-a-hard-time-facing-the-costs-of-the-ukraine-war\/\"><span> costing Moscow around $1 billion a day<\/span><\/a><span>, and that figure has likely only increased.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>On Monday, it was reported that<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-11452525\/Russia-borrows-11-4billion-continue-funding-war-Ukraine.html\"><span> Russia had borrowed \u00a311.4 billion ($13.4 billion)<\/span><\/a><span> in its largest-ever debt issuance in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/2022\/11\/putin-the-beggar-russia-is-selling-billions-in-debt-to-fight-ukraine\/\">single day<\/a>. Moscow raised the money by issuing new debt bonds over the weekend to help fund the ongoing conflict and to raise as much cash as possible before the conditions worsen and the costs go up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Russia\u2019s military budget is expected to be about 40 percent higher than forecast for next year. Replacing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/2022\/11\/r-37m-and-r-77-1-russias-long-range-hypersonic-missiles-are-terrorizing-ukraine\/\">massive losses<\/a> isn\u2019t going to come cheap.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>At the same time, Russia\u2019s economy officially entered recession last week, shrinking by 4.1 percent in the second quarter of this year, followed by a four percent decline in the third quarter. Even as the sale of oil and gasoline \u2013 after prices shot up after the war broke out \u2013 have kept the country afloat, Russia is now<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/2022\/06\/expert-the-russian-economy-is-a-massive-dumpster-fire\/\"><span> facing an embargo<\/span><\/a><span> by the U.S. and EU, and revenues are expected to shrink in 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/2022\/11\/russia-is-in-sanctions-hell-thanks-to-putins-war-in-ukraine\/\">Russia\u2019s economy<\/a> is expected to fall by 4.6 percent over the course of the year. This will be Moscow\u2019s<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/russia-recession-economy-shrinks-ukraine-war\/\"><span> second recession in three years.<\/span><\/a><span> Though not as bad as the recession Moscow faced during the Covid-19 pandemic, it isn\u2019t as clear how Russia will come out of it \u2013 especially as the likelihood of Russia quickly restoring global trading relationships even after the war is ended is remote at best.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>The U.S. Cost of the War<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>Even as some U.S. lawmakers have sought to reduce the amount of money sent to aid Ukraine, the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) has described the costs to defeat Russia<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cepa.org\/article\/its-costing-peanuts-for-the-us-to-defeat-russia\/\"><span> as \u201cpeanuts\u201d for the United States<\/span><\/a><span> and its allies.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>As the report noted, the Biden administration has to date, received Congressional approval for $40bn in aid for Ukraine for 2022, while it has requested an additional $37.7bn for 2022.\u00a0<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>More than half of that aid has been earmarked for defense.\u202f<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_63411\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-63411\" class=\"size-large wp-image-63411\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Su-34-1200x675-1.jpg\" alt=\"Su-34 Russia\" width=\"880\" height=\"495\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Su-34-1200x675-1.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.19fortyfive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Su-34-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Su-34-768x432-1.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Su-34-1024x576-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Su-34-600x337-1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Su-34.jpg 1280w\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-63411\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Su-34 fighter. Image Credit: Russian Government.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>\u201cThese sums pale into insignificance when set against a total US defense budget of $715bn for 2022,\u201d CEPA stated. \u201cThe assistance represents 5.6% of total US defense spending. But Russia is a primary adversary of the US, a top tier rival not too far behind China, its number one strategic challenger. In cold, geopolitical terms, this war provides a prime opportunity for the US to erode and degrade Russia\u2019s conventional defense capability, with no boots on the ground and little risk to US lives.\u201d<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><span>Simply put \u2013 again in cold, geopolitical terms \u2013 the war is destroying Russia so that it really can\u2019t be described as a \u201cnear-peer\u201d adversary, apart from its nuclear capabilities.\u00a0<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.journalofdemocracy.org\/how-putins-war-in-ukraine-has-ruined-russia\/\"><span>Russia is isolated, broke, and relying on antiquated equipment<\/span><\/a><span>. This war has destroyed the Kremlin in a way that even President Ronald Reagan\u2019s spending in the 1980s failed to beat down the Soviet Union.
