Greg Abbott declared an invasion over surging illegal immigration numbers, the Texas National Guard is deploying tank-like armored vehicles along the U.S.-Mexico border.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">I invoked the Invasion Clauses of the U.S. &#038; Texas Constitutions to fully authorize Texas to take unprecedented measures to defend our state against an invasion.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m using that constitutional authority, &#038; other authorization &#038; Executive Orders to keep our state &#038; country safe: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2Jt5HEMgp5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pic.twitter.com\/2Jt5HEMgp5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Greg Abbott (@GregAbbott_TX) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GregAbbott_TX\/status\/1592553350129909762?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">November 15, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to documents obtained by the Army Times and Texas Tribune, the M113 armored personnel carrier vehicles will be deployed at 10 positions along the border. Additionally, the Texas National Guard will also increase \u201caircraft flights and security efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese actions are part of a larger strategy to use every available tool to fight back against the record-breaking level of illegal immigration,\u201d the Military Department said in a statement. \u201cThe Texas National Guard is taking unprecedented measures to safeguard our border and to repel and turn-back immigrants trying to cross the border illegally.\u201d<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Armored personnel carriers like the M113 are designed to carry infantry troops across modern battlefields alongside tanks. They can be equipped with a range of weapons: heavy machine guns, grenade launchers, antitank missiles or even large cannons similar to those mounted on tanks. It\u2019s not clear what weapons, if any, will be on the Texas Guard\u2019s M113s at the border.<\/p>\n<p>Such vehicles are by definition bulletproof and can withstand small explosions. In the civilian world, lighter, wheeled armored personnel carriers are sometimes used to carry police SWAT teams.<\/p>\n<p>Lovingly known as the \u201cbattle taxi\u201d by Army troops, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/military-honor\/vietnam-vets-rolling-thunder\/2018\/01\/16\/the-armored-workhorse-of-the-us-army-the-m113-tank-has-been-on-the-move-since-vietnam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vietnam-era<\/a> M113 features tracks instead of wheels, leading observers to sometimes confuse them for tanks. Tracks allow heavy armored vehicles to traverse difficult terrain \u2014 such as ditches or muddy areas \u2014 with a lower risk of becoming stuck.
