Fox<\/a>, as the guy who once drank cobra blood with him \u2014 and he said that at least for Fox, it didn\u2019t end well.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/movies\/woody-harelson-recalls-drinking-cobra-blood-in-thailand-with-michael-j-fox-mike-promptly-vomited\/?utm_campaign=peoplemagazine&#038;utm_content=new&#038;utm_medium=social&#038;utm_source=twitter.com&#038;utm_term=637bd6ea17e950000112e1de\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harrelson<\/a>, 61, has been friends with Fox, also 61, for decades \u2014 so he was the perfect choice to present the\u00a0Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to the \u201cBack to the Future\u201d star at Saturday\u2019s 2022 Governors Awards in Los Angeles. But while he was leading up to the award presentation, <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2022\/11\/21\/woody-harrelson-and-michael-j-fox-drank-cobra-blood-together\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harrelson<\/a> took an entertaining detour through their wilder days.<\/p>\n<p>Referencing a trip he took to Thailand to visit Fox in the late 1980s, Harrelson said that the pair found themselves spectators at a fight between a cobra and a mongoose.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe taunted a bunch of these cobras and then he found the orneriest cobra, grabbed it by the neck, threw it in a cage with mongoose, where I saw the craziest fight I\u2019ve ever seen between any animals other than studio executives,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/flattered-to-be-compared-legendary-cheers-actor-writes-personal-poem-to-his-infant-doppelganger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harrelson<\/a> described the scene.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd the mongoose won, they took the snake, yep, tied it by its tail, run the blood out, half-filled four glasses with cobra blood and half with Thai whiskey,\u201d he said, explaining that \u201cdrinking the cobra blood is called \u2018becoming brother to the snake.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He and Fox apparently decided to accept the challenge, but according to Harrelson, the \u201cFamily Ties\u201d actor had some difficulty keeping the concoction down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMike and I drink lots of things together, and he can hold his own \u2014 can I say, he\u2019s Canadian. But Mike promptly vomited his snake cocktail. Never could hold his cobra blood,\u201d Harrelson <a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/celebrity\/woody-harrelson-michael-j-fox-cobra-blood\/?utm_campaign=entertainmentweekly_entertainmentweekly&#038;utm_content=new&#038;utm_medium=social&#038;utm_source=twitter.com&#038;utm_term=637c0c5b17e950000112ee57\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">laughed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cHunger Games\u201d actor pivoted to the reason he was presenting the award to his friend: his tireless advocacy for people suffering from Parkinson\u2019s disease. Fox, who was diagnosed in 1991, became a vocal activist, raising funds and awareness in the hopes of finding a cure \u2014 if not in his lifetime, for those who would come after.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u00a0never asked for the role of Parkinson\u2019s advocate, but it is his best performance. Michael J. Fox sets the ultimate example of how to fight and\u00a0how to live,\u201d Harrelson said.<\/p>\n<p>Fox thanked his friend for the introduction, joking that the pair had certainly \u201cdone some damage\u201d back in the day \u2014 before addressing the audience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI refer to Parkinson\u2019s as the gift that keeps on taking. But it truly has been a gift,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cI\u2019m really blunt with people about cures. When they ask me if I will be relieved of Parkinson\u2019s in my lifetime, I say, \u2018I\u2019m 60 years old, and science is hard. So, no \u2026\u00a0I am genuinely a happy guy. I don\u2019t have a morbid thought in my head \u2014 I don\u2019t fear death.
