Some applicants received an email from Education Secretary Miguel Cardona saying they were \u201celigible for loan relief\u201d after a review of their submission, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/biden-administration-notifies-approved-student-loan-relief-applicants-2022-11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> from Business Insider. \u201cWe have sent this approval on to your loan servicer,\u201d the message said. \u201cYou do not need to take any further action.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cardona <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SecCardona\/status\/1593980726172561408\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">affirmed<\/a> on social media that applicants should not \u201cworry\u201d if they do not immediately receive the email since \u201cmore are coming.\u201d He added that the administration remains confident in its legal authority to execute the program.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, the promise of loan cancellation occurs despite multiple lawsuits challenging the plan, which is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-federal-court-freezes-bidens-student-loan-bailout\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on hold<\/a> after a ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.<\/p>\n<p>Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-administration-asks-supreme-court-to-allow-student-loan-forgiveness-plan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asked<\/a> the Supreme Court last week to rule on whether the administration\u2019s policy can continue. \u201cThe Eighth Circuit\u2019s erroneous injunction leaves millions of economically vulnerable borrowers in limbo, uncertain about the size of their debt and unable to make financial decisions with an accurate understanding of their future repayment obligations,\u201d she contended.<\/p>\n<p>If the policy survives the legal challenges, the Department of Education would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-biden-announces-details-of-student-loan-cancellation-plan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cancel<\/a> $10,000 in student debt for millions of borrowers earning less than $125,000 per year, as well as $20,000 for students who attended college via Pell Grant.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit granted standing from the Eighth Circuit was filed by multiple Republican state attorneys general who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/unfair-unconstitutional-and-unwise-two-more-lawsuits-hit-biden-over-student-debt-cancellation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asserted<\/a> that the White House illegally bypassed Congress while drafting the student debt policy. The officials pointed to the recent Supreme Court opinion in West Virginia v. EPA, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/supreme-court-rules-against-bidens-epa-says-agency-does-not-have-authority-to-regulate-carbon-dioxide-emissions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> that federal agencies cannot assert \u201chighly consequential power beyond what Congress could reasonably be understood to have granted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition to being economically unwise and downright unfair, the Biden Administration\u2019s Mass Debt Cancellation is yet another example in a long line of unlawful regulatory actions,\u201d the complaint argued. \u201cNo statute permits President Biden to unilaterally relieve millions of individuals from their obligation to pay loans they voluntarily assumed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The loan cancellation policy comes after the passage of multiple large legislative packages, including the Inflation Reduction Act and renewed military and humanitarian aid for Ukraine. One <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbo.gov\/system\/files\/2022-09\/58494-Student-Loans.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">estimate<\/a> from the Congressional Budget Office predicts that the overall cost of the loan cancellation could reach $400 billion, with another $20 billion incurred by an extended pause on federal student loan repayments currently slated to end in January.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s legislative allies broadly support the legislation, although outgoing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) once <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/pelosi-agreed-with-devos-biden-cant-forgive-student-loans-she-just-caved\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expressed doubt<\/a> as to whether the commander-in-chief has the authority to unilaterally cancel federal debts without action from Congress. During a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/elizabeth-warren-i-dont-have-any-doubt-biden-has-authority-to-cancel-student-loan-debt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview<\/a>, Sen.
