Following the announcement on Sunday night, Disney stocks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-11452841\/Disney-shares-rise-10-pre-market-trading-Bob-Iger-makes-return-CEO.html\">shot up by ten percent<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since being hand-picked for the job by Iger himself in February 2020, Chapek made a number of controversial decisions that caused upset across the board, notably his opposition to Florida&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/breaking-disney-ceo-attacks-anti-grooming-law-desantis-position-has-not-changed\">anti-grooming<\/a> law that prevents teachers from indoctrinating K-3 students in gender ideology. His short tenure also saw the company&#8217;s value decrease by one-third.<\/p>\n<p>Chapek&#8217;s statements regarding the bill\u00a0led to DeSantis&#8217; decision to strip the company of its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/desantis-signs-bill-stripping-disney-of-special-self-governing-status\">special self-governing status<\/a>, which will take effect in June of 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the backlash from Governor DeSantis and the majority of Floridians, Chapek <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/disney-ceo-apologizes-for-not-being-a-stronger-ally-amid-feud-with-desantis\">doubled down<\/a> on his opposition and announced a series of large donations to a number of woke causes.
