The first two seasons have been viewed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crosswalk.com\/culture\/features\/4-things-to-know-about-the-chosen-season-3-movie.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more than 440 million times, to date.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Even secular critics, routinely harsh toward faith-based storytelling, have embraced the saga.<\/p>\n<p>This weekend, \u201cThe Chosen\u201d showed it can compete with the best and brightest Hollywood has to offer.<\/p>\n<p>The first two episodes of the show\u2019s third season, packaged for theatrical release, is set to <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2022\/11\/box-office-black-panther-wakanda-forever-the-menu-anya-taylor-joy-she-said-1235176102\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">earn $10 million in its opening weekend<\/a>. For perspective, the ballyhooed \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/she-said-review-weinstein\/\">She Said<\/a>,\u201d recalling the journalists who helped expose Harvey Weinstein\u2019s predatory crimes, will earn roughly $2.25 million on its opening weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Both films snagged around 2,000 screens nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Chosen: Season 3\u201d also beat out \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/the-menu-review-fiennes\/\">The Menu<\/a>,\u201d a thriller starring Ralph Fiennes as a fanatical chef. \u00a0That film was shown in roughly 1,000 more theaters than \u201cThe Chosen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/lifemark-fathom-events-box-office-2022\/\"><strong>RELATED: \u2018LIFEMARK\u2019 DEFIES THE ODDS, SCORES AT THE BOX OFFICE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Chosen: Season 3\u201d quickly outpaced some of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/oscar-bait-movies-bomb-box-office\/\">season\u2019s Oscar-bait releases<\/a>, like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cArmageddon Time\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cTill\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cTar\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cCall Jane\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here is the official plot description for \u201cThe Chosen: Season 3\u2019s\u201d theatrical debut.<\/p>\n<p><em>After Jesus completes a sermon that turns the world upside down, all 12 disciples (including newcomer Judas) are ready to follow him to the ends of the earth. But problems remain. Matthew wrestles with estrangement from his family. Andrew visits an imprisoned John the Baptist. Mary and the women must find a source of income. Simon and Eden face the costs of following Jesus.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Most importantly, the disciples face their biggest challenge yet when Jesus sends them out, two by two, to preach and perform miracles without him.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not the first time the series crossed over into the cineplex. Last year, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/christmas-with-the-chosen-box-office\/\">Christmas With The Chosen: The Messengers<\/a>\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/scottmendelson\/2021\/12\/08\/box-office-christmas-with-the-chosen-passes-10-million\/?sh=3dfd0ded47db\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">earned $10 million<\/a> in its first seven days, going on to generate $13.7 million. That release earned more than $4 million in its debut weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Chosen\u201d can be viewed on the Angel Studios app, but its reach will soon expand.
