For some in power, it seems, that\u2019s a trick question.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution to end the COVID-caused national emergency declared in 2020. But not everyone was on board.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, the bill had been unsuccessfully proposed. Then during a September <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/biden-covid-pandemic-over\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>60 Minutes<\/em><\/a>, interview, Joe Biden dropped a bomb:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe pandemic is over. We still have a problem with COVID, we\u2019re still doing a lot of work on it. \u2026 But the pandemic is over.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/biden-covid-pandemic-over\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS News<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Mr. Biden\u2019s comments came only a few weeks after his administration asked Congress for billions of dollars to maintain its testing and vaccination efforts.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Leader of the Free World seemed to have spoken out of turn\u2026<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The remark contradicts statements made by his own aides earlier this month, as they have urged Americans to seek out an\u00a0updated booster\u00a0ahead of a feared fall and winter wave of the virus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe pandemic isn\u2019t over. And we will remain vigilant, and of course, we continue to look for and prepare for unforeseen twists and turns,\u201d Dr. Ashish Jha, the White House\u2019s top COVID-19 official, told reporters\u00a0on September 6.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As RedState\u2019s Nick Arama <a href=\"https:\/\/redstate.com\/nick-arama\/2022\/09\/19\/hot-takes-people-on-left-are-furious-at-joe-biden-for-declaring-pandemic-over-n629687\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pointed out<\/a> at the time, Joe\u2019s announcement threw \u201call of his mandates and state mandates into question, not to mention the legal justification for his student loan bailout. There was speculation that he was doing it to make things sound better before the election.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Heck no. With all due respect, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoeBiden?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@JoeBiden<\/a> \u2014 you\u2019re wrong. Pandemic is not over. Almost 3,000 Americans are dying from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/COVID19?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#COVID19<\/a> every single week.<\/p>\n<p>A weekly 9\/11 is a very big deal. Don\u2019t even get me started on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/LongCOVID?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#LongCOVID<\/a>\u2014wreaking havoc on millions more. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/p0dI3BE0oh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pic.twitter.com\/p0dI3BE0oh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Eric Feigl-Ding (@DrEricDing) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DrEricDing\/status\/1571656466657935363?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">September 19, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/biden-covid-over-fauci-criticism-b2172089.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Independent<\/a>, damage control ensued:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The President acknowledged the criticism when speaking to donors. He then added that what he meant to say was that the pandemic \u201cbasically is not where it was.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Even so, following the President\u2019s pronouncement, Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) reintroduced Senate Joint Resolution 63. On the 15th, the effort to terminate our state of emergency triumphed via 61 yays \u2014 which included 100 percent of Republicans. However, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/legislative\/LIS\/roll_call_votes\/vote1172\/vote_117_2_00355.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">37 Democrats<\/a> voted against it. That is to say, more than three dozen senators insist America is still in a Code Red state over the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>But COVID is now a part of the planet, and most people haven\u2019t been voluntarily masking for a very long time. In fact, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/low-fall-covid-booster-uptake-11668621674?mod=e2fb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">only around 31 million Americans<\/a> have cared to get a fall COVID-19 booster. The country, mostly, has moved on. But for some in seats of power, an emergency state still seems about right.<\/p>\n<p>From the Senate floor Tuesday, Sen. Marshall <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshall.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/senator-marshalls-resolution-to-end-covid-national-emergency-declaration-overwhelmingly-passes-senate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">offered<\/a> the following:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cCongress must take the responsible action of reining in this massive expansion of government and restore Americans fundamental rights by terminating the COVID-19 national emergency declaration. As to the elements to the pandemic response that are working and needed, let\u2019s codify them into law.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The measure has the House and the President still to reach, and the White House isn\u2019t ready to roll over. The day before S.J. 63 passed in the upper chamber, Biden\u2019s Office of Management and Budget released a staunch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/SAP-SJRes63.docx.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Continuing to protect against COVID-19 and ensuring that our response remains nimble are top<br \/>priorities of this Administration. \u2026 The national emergency enables the Administration to more effectively respond to COVID-19, including ensuring that necessary supplies are promptly available to respond to the virus and facilitating the delivery of health care at a time when our health system has been under tremendous and prolonged stress. These authorities are critical to continue responding not only to the Omicron variant, but also to emerging subvariants already spreading in the United States and future variants that may arise. \u2026 Preserving our ability to respond is more important than ever as we head into the winter, when respiratory illnesses such as COVID-19 typically spread more easily.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It\u2019s better for the economy:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Strengthened by the ongoing declaration of national emergency, the federal response to COVID-19 continues to save lives, improve health outcomes, and support the American economy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Brass tacks:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>If Congress passes this resolution, the President will veto it.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So when will the pandemic be over? For Joe Biden \u2014 though he may not know it \u2014 it\u2019ll be no time soon.
