Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), the chairman of the select committee, told reporters on Thursday that the four-member subcommittee will handle \u201coutstanding issues\u201d as the full committee focuses on completing the final report on its investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to have a decision as to what we do with the members who did not recognize the subpoenas,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2022\/11\/17\/the-jan-6-committee-has-a-clean-up-crew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Thompson said<\/a>, describing what the subcommittee\u2019s work will entail.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s cleaning up every unfinished piece of work for the committee. And that part of it just fit better in some subcommittee. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), Rep. Scott Perry (R-Penn.), and Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) all failed to respond to subpoenas and potentially face contempt of Congress charges.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n\t<\/aside>\n<p>Former top Trump White House aide Steve Bannon was convicted of contempt of Congress after he defied a subpoena from the committee and was <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/10\/21\/steve-bannon-sentenced-for-contempt-of-congress-after-defying-subpoena\/\">sentenced last month to four months in prison<\/a>. Bannon\u2019s sentence was stayed as he <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/11\/07\/bannon-prison-sentence-delayed-as-he-appeals-verdict\/\">appeals<\/a> the verdict.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Thompson has appointed Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) to lead the new subcommittee. Raskin will work alongside Reps. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and the committee\u2019s Vice Chairwoman Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re looking at potential referrals or criminal offenses and for civil offenses and for general lawlessness where it might not otherwise be obvious,\u201d Raskin said, <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/national-security\/3740900-jan-6-panel-forms-subcommittee-on-criminal-referrals-unresolved-subpoenas\/\">according<\/a> to the Hill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re looking at criminal and civil referrals for people who have broken the law and may have escaped scrutiny,\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Thompson said the subcommittee will also look at how to respond to the DOJ\u2019s request for deposition transcripts and other information.
