Thankfully, veteran race-hustler Texas Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/redstate.com\/nick-arama\/2020\/02\/12\/sheila-jackson-lee-trumps-budget-is-racist-n128450\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sheila Jackson Lee<\/a> can and just did. Democrats in general are phenomenal at connecting dots that don\u2019t exist, but Jackson Lee can connect <em>virtually anything<\/em> to \u201cracism\u201d in fewer dots than most \u2014 except for MSNBC\u2019s Joy Reid, of course.<\/p>\n<p>In her latest display of ninja-like mastery, Jackson Lee, on Thursday, drew a ridiculous connection between COVID and slavery during a disjointed speech on the House Floor as she once again called for <a href=\"https:\/\/redstate.com\/mike_miller\/2022\/01\/16\/burger-king-murder-suspect-demands-reparations-democrats-seen-furiously-nodding-in-approval-n507463\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reparations<\/a>, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblaze.com\/news\/jackson-lee-reparations-slavery-covid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> by The Blaze. While she claimed her spiel wasn\u2019t accusatory (of course, it was) and only about \u201creconciliation,\u201d \u201crestoration,\u201d and \u201crepair,\u201d her words were as delusional as\u2014 well, as delusional as SJL <em>always is<\/em> \u2014 and with a straight face, mind you:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>It stands on the basis of facts. There is no doubt we have been impacted, that DNA in the trajectory of slavery to today. For example in COVID. Black African-Americans got COVID at a rate of nearly 1.5x higher than that of white people, or hospitalized at a rate of nearly 4x higher and 3x likely to die. COVID hit us very desperately.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Therefore, she claimed:\u00a0\u201cReparations are curative; they\u2019re not punishment.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) gives powerful support for reparations for descendants of those enslaved in the U.S.:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You did not see us attack this most solid and somber institution \u2014 sacred \u2014 on January 6, 2021. We were not the masses that were trying to undermine democracy.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/TVED0whyKV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pic.twitter.com\/TVED0whyKV<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Recount (@therecount) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/therecount\/status\/1593286935841325059?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">November 17, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Jackson Lee cited a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/02\/16\/us\/reparations-covid-black-americans-disparity-trnd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Harvard Medical School study<\/a> and claimed that \u201creparations for African-Americans could have cut COVID-19 transmission and infection rate, both among blacks and the population at large.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not that I distrust <em>everything that comes out of Sheila Jackson Lee\u2019s mouth<\/em>, but I decided to do a bit of digging on my own. You know, that \u201ctrust but verify\u201d thing. Anyway, several Harvard Medical School references to COVID and race disparity pop up on Google, including <em><a href=\"https:\/\/hms.harvard.edu\/news\/pandemic-inequity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pandemic Inequality<\/a>,<\/em> with the subhead: <em>Study IDs racial, ethnic disparities in hospital mortality for COVID, non-COVID patients.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Excerpts:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>During the COVID-19 pandemic, Hispanic Medicare patients hospitalized with COVID-19 were more likely to die than non-Hispanic white Medicare beneficiaries, according to a study led by researchers from the Department of Health Care Policy in the Blavatnik Institute at Harvard Medical School.<\/p>\n<p>The analysis also found that existing pre-pandemic racial and ethnic disparities in hospital mortality widened during the pandemic\u2014an exacerbation that was fueled by a widening gap between deaths of Black and white people, the researchers said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Stop the tape.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c<\/em>Existing pre-pandemic racial and ethnic disparities<em>.\u201d<\/em> Like what? Physical condition? Diet? Underlying health-related issues? Lifestyle? Here\u2019s more:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The analysis measures racial and ethnic disparities in death and other hospital-based outcomes for both COVID-19 <strong>and non-COVID-19 patients<\/strong> based on an examination of complete hospitalization data for Medicare beneficiaries nationwide.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So, while Jackson Lee conveniently \u201cforgot\u201d that part \u2014 non-COVID patients, as well \u2014 my anecdotal observations of several friends and acquaintances who died from COVID-related complications showed that every one of them had underlying pre-existing conditions, ranging from obesity to diabetes, respiratory or heart problems, and several autoimmune diseases.<\/p>\n<p>I say only this: Sheila Jackson Lee is using a broad-as-hell brush to paint a specific picture that doesn\u2019t exist \u2014in and of itself \u2014 for the sole purpose of once again seeking \u201creparations\u201d that would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/08\/12\/slavery-reparations-cost-us-government-10-to-12-trillion.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cost U.S. taxpayers between $10 trillion and $12 trillion<\/a>, or roughly $800,000 for each \u201celigible\u201d Black household.<\/p>\n<p>As noted by The Blaze,\u00a0Jackson Lee is the sponsor of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/40#:~:text=This%20bill%20establishes%20the%20Commission,present%20and%20recommend%20appropriate%20remedies.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">H.R. 40, the Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans Act<\/a>. The bill was first introduced into Congress by Democrat John Conyers in 1989. The bill\u2019s purpose:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>This bill establishes the Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans. The commission shall examine slavery and discrimination in the colonies and the United States from 1619 to the present and recommend appropriate remedies.<\/p>\n<p>The commission shall identify (1) the role of the federal and state governments in supporting the institution of slavery, (2) forms of discrimination in the public and private sectors against freed slaves and their descendants, and (3) lingering negative effects of slavery on living African Americans and society.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Jackson Lee\u2019s bill only cleared committee once, in April 2021.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Bottom Line<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Democrat Party, which has been hellbent to redistribute wealth in America for six decades, or more, remains at odds between two wise observations from two wise men.<\/p>\n<p>Famed Austrian Economist F. A. Hayek famously said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>There is all the difference in the world between treating people equally and attempting to make them equal.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Hence, the Democrats\u2019 current codeword \u201cequity\u201d has replaced \u201cequality.\u201d Why?<\/p>\n<p>British playwright George Bernard Shaw, a socialist advocate who disdained capitalism, advocated the following words of wisdom to fellow socialists of his time:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>A government which robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Therein lies the cornerstone of today\u2019s Democrat Party, gang.
