He died of natural causes at the age of 96, his\u00a0niece Brenda Hancock confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Hancock shared Thursday with the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/entertainment-europe-obituaries-sitcoms-d4d90b6a9548bc50f36354794ac7cdf4\">Associated Press<\/a> that the survivor \u201cnever let those horrors defeat him. He never let them take the joy out of his life. He tried to spread that joy to others through his singing and his dancing and his painting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clary, a French-born survivor of Nazi concentration camps during World War II, is probably best known to fans for his role as Cpl. Louis LeBeau, a\u00a0feisty French prisoner of war who would commonly trade barbs with co-star Richard Dawson, who played British Cpl. Peter Newkirk, on the hit 1960s World War II CBS sitcom.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Robert Clary, last of the \u2018Hogan\u2019s Heroes\u2019 stars, dies at 96 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/38AHAWfDj4\">https:\/\/t.co\/38AHAWfDj4<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5gLvWX0EI1\">pic.twitter.com\/5gLvWX0EI1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Associated Press (@AP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AP\/status\/1593325652832403456?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 17, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The actor was also known for his positive outlook and would share those feelings when speaking at various engagements, the outlet noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t ever hate,\u201d Hancock shared. \u201cHe didn\u2019t let hate overcome the beauty in this world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHogans Heroes\u201d ran on the network from 1965-1971 and helped launch numerous careers. Clary was the last remaining survivor of the cast that included fellow fictional POWs played by Dawson, Bob Crane, Larry Hovis, and Ivan Dixon. The cast was rounded out by Werner Klemperer and John Banner, who played their captors.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to \u201cHogans Heroes,\u201d Clary appeared on several daytime soap operas such as \u201cDays of Our Lives\u201d and \u201cThe Bold and the Beautiful.\u201d He also appeared on the stage in various musicals including \u201cCabaret\u201d and \u201cIrma La Douce,\u201d and on the big screen in films like \u201cA New Kind of Love\u201d and \u201cThe Hindenburg.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 1985, a documentary was released regarding what he went through as a child\u00a0after twelve of his family members, his parents, and 10 siblings were killed under the Nazis, the outlet noted. It was titled, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1054643\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Robert Clary, A5714: A Memoir of Liberation<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the age of 16, he was taken away from his family and sent to several concentration camps. After 31 months in captivity, he was finally liberated from\u00a0Buchenwald death camp by American troops.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey write books and articles in magazines denying the Holocaust, making a mockery of the 6 million Jews \u2014 including a million and a half children \u2014 who died in the gas chambers and ovens,\u201d Clary previously told The Associated Press.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after news surfaced of the star\u2019s death, tributes to his time on the screen surfaced on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018Singing, entertaining, and being in kind of good health at my age, that\u2019s why I survive,\u2019 [Robert Clary]\u00a0In \u2018Hogan\u2019s Heroes,\u2019\u00a0Robert Clary played a French POW.
