Alameda Research, a trading firm run by former Jane Street trader Caroline Ellison, allegedly funneled customer holdings from FTX to make cryptocurrency bets.<\/p>\n<p>Many executives at the digital coin empire knew Bankman-Fried from his time at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, while others were alumni of Jane Street, a quantitative trading firm, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2022\/11\/10\/bankman-frieds-cabal-of-roommates-in-the-bahamas-ran-his-crypto-empire-and-dated-other-employees-have-lots-of-questions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> from CoinDesk, which added that Bankman-Fried and Ellison have \u201cat times\u201d been romantically involved.<\/p>\n<p>Bankman-Fried and nine other executives reportedly lived together in a luxury penthouse in the Bahamas, where FTX is headquartered. All of the individuals \u201care, or used to be, paired up in romantic relationships with each other,\u201d the outlet claimed based on unnamed sources. Speculation mounted on social media as to whether the executives were engaged in a romantic network called a \u201cpolycule,\u201d including from tech executive Ed Zitron.<\/p>\n<p>In the days after FTX suddenly collapsed, the young executives\u2019 open endorsement of amphetamine use also resurfaced online. Ellison, a graduate of Stanford University, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/carolinecapital\/status\/1379036346300305408\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">remarked<\/a> on social media last year that there exists \u201cnothing like regular amphetamine use to make you appreciate how dumb a lot of normal, non-medicated human experience is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bankman-Fried, whose $15 billion fortune evaporated amid the collapse of his company, said during a podcast <a href=\"https:\/\/www.listennotes.com\/podcasts\/the-feedback-loop\/sam-and-the-art-of-effective-DOU3SJaK2ZM\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview<\/a> two years ago that he had experimented with amphetamines, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/11\/15\/crypto-ceo-caroline-ellison-tweeted-about-regular-amphetamine-use\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> from The New York Post. In a social media <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SBF_FTX\/status\/1173351344159117312?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1173351344159117312%7Ctwgr%5E98158a0a6e99d5e7d027f9277cd2b334f8b7111d%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fcryptoslate.com%2Fsam-bankman-fried-ends-bizarre-tweet-thread-and-we-are-still-none-the-wiser%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">post<\/a> from three years ago, Bankman-Fried appeared to comment that one could use \u201cstimulants when you wake up, sleeping pills if you need them when you sleep.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adderall, which is composed of mixed amphetamine salts, is a common pharmaceutical used to manage hyperactivity, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nami.org\/About-Mental-Illness\/Treatments\/Mental-Health-Medications\/Types-of-Medication\/Amphetamine-(Adderall)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> from the National Alliance on Mental Illness.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. George Lerner, a psychiatrist who spent most of his workweek serving as an in-house therapist at FTX, remarked during an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/11\/15\/technology\/ftx-sam-bankman-fried-psychiatrist.html?partner=slack&#038;smid=sl-share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview<\/a> with The New York Times that he was surprised at the company\u2019s sudden implosion, but contested claims that executives routinely engaged in debauched behavior.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a pretty tame place,\u201d he said. \u201cThe higher-ups, they mostly played chess and board games. There was no partying. They were undersexed, if anything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lerner added that the company\u2019s leadership generally spent long days and nights at the office. \u201cThey were working way too much,\u201d he continued. \u201cIt would have been healthier if they did have more healthy dating relationships.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Beyond allegations regarding executives\u2019 personal lives, fallout from the bankruptcy of FTX has induced calls for new regulations on the cryptocurrency sector and will be the subject of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/bipartisan-committee-to-hear-from-sam-bankman-fried-and-crypto-allies-next-month\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bipartisan hearing<\/a> hosted by the House Financial Services Committee next month.
