As I said last week, the future is too promising to be trapped in political warfare. The American people want us to get things done for them. They want us to focus on the issues that matter to them and on making their lives better,\u201d Biden said. \u201cAnd I will work with anyone\u2014Republican or Democrat\u2014willing to work with me to deliver results for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/mccarthy-biden-disclose-what-they-discussed-in-first-call-after-midterms_4857304.html\">said recently<\/a> that he would \u201cwork with anybody that wants to put American first and move us in the right direction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pelosi, meanwhile, said that House Democrats \u201cdefied expectations\u201d in the midterms, referring to how some analysts predicted Republicans would flip so many seats that they would enjoy a majority of a dozen or two seats.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, the majority will be just a handful of seats, complicating GOP efforts to get things done.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the next Congress, House Democrats will continue to play a leading role in supporting President Biden\u2019s agenda\u2014with strong leverage over a scant Republican majority,\u201d Pelosi said.<\/p>\n<p>The called races as of Nov. 17 have Republicans with 218 seats in the next Congress, and Democrats with 211 seats. Six seats still remain uncalled, including those involving Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) and Katie Porter (D-Calif.).<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy has faced opposition within his party, primarily from the House Freedom Caucus, raising questions about how effective Republicans can be in the majority.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to work as a team, or we\u2019ll lose as individuals,\u201d McCarthy said on Fox News late Wednesday. \u201cAnd I believe this conference will rally together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republicans have vowed to take action on key issues including the economy and the border, and launch investigations into the origins of COVID-19, the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, and Biden\u2019s son Hunter Biden.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/democrats-keep-control-of-senate-after-emerging-victorious-in-key-races_4847614.html\">is poised<\/a> to be majority leader again in the next Congress, has not commented on the Republicans flipping the House.<\/p>\n<div class=\"author_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"one_author_block round\">\n<div class=\"top_row\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/author-zachary-stieber\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/WEB_ZacharyStieber-1.jpg\" alt=\"Zachary Stieber\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Follow<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Zachary Stieber covers U.S. and world news for The Epoch Times.
