This will be our campaign all together. Because the only force strong enough to defeat the massive corruption we are up against is you, the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks ago, Trump\u2019s re-ascension to the Republican nomination seemed almost inevitable. He has led in every single <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/2024\/president\/us\/2024_republican_presidential_nomination-7548.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">poll <\/a>taken for the contest, leading all but one by double digits. He\u2019s also running with a loaded war chest of $<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/donald-trump-2024-president-campaign-money-funding-save-america-complaint-2022-11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">100 million<\/a> to dump into the race, and he\u2019s remained the most popular Republican in the country with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/other\/other\/FavorabilityRatingsPoliticalLeaders.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">favorability ratings<\/a> higher than members of GOP congressional leadership. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Trump sucks up all the energy in every room, no matter what,\u201d Megyn Kelly <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/10\/28\/trump-reposts-megyn-kelly-saying-desantis-cant-win-2024-face-off\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said <\/a>on Dave Rubin\u2019s show at the end of October. Kelly claimed that not even \u201csomeone as skilled as a politician and smart policy-wise\u201d as the current top-performing Republican governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, could \u201covercome that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2015 and 2016, that\u2019s exactly what Trump did despite being written off by nearly every establishment figure in Washington. Then the novice politician with a background in television and corporate real estate and no experience running for office began the race at the center of every debate stage except one he refused to attend. <\/p>\n<p>The brash TV celebrity was a <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2016\/03\/21\/tv-debates-trump-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gold mine<\/a> for ratings. He drove viewers to cable news and even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adweek.com\/tvnewser\/ratings-for-donald-trump-snl-hosting-best-since-2012\/276837\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">boosted<\/a> \u201cSaturday Night Live\u2019s\u201d numbers to their highest in years. Trump earned <a href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2015\/12\/06\/media\/donald-trump-nightly-news-coverage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more coverage<\/a> than every other candidate, which <a href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2015\/12\/06\/media\/donald-trump-nightly-news-coverage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">never mattered<\/a> if it was negative \u2014 and it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/journalism\/2017\/10\/02\/covering-president-trump-in-a-polarized-media-environment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">remained <\/a>negative through his administration. <\/p>\n<p>His base, energized by this new brand of conservative populism finally coming to fruition, stayed with him. His support rarely ever dropped below 30 percent. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/the-fix\/wp\/2015\/07\/15\/trumps-popularity-spikes-among-republicans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">became <\/a>the most popular Republican in the country, and he led nearly every single <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.fivethirtyeight.com\/election-2016\/national-primary-polls\/republican\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">poll <\/a>throughout the race. <\/p>\n<p>At an August 2015 campaign stop in Iowa, former Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, whose struggling presidential effort never made it to the caucuses, became<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/post-politics\/wp\/2015\/08\/10\/bobby-jindals-new-strategy-donald-trump-donald-trump-donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> vocally frustrated<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI realize that the best way to make news is to mention Donald Trump.
