After a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/10\/17\/how-much-porn-do-libraries-and-schools-have-to-sponsor-to-get-defunded\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tumultuous<\/a>\u00a0board meeting in October, when hundreds of Muslim and Christian Dearborn parents called for the removal of multiple \u201csexually explicit\u201d books, parents had \u201cno other choice but to retain legal expertise,\u201d said Dearborn resident Mike Hacham.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs you are well aware, these parents have expressed to you great concerns regarding books depicting\/describing pornography, pedophilia, and\/or other sexually explicit content in your school library,\u201d the lawsuit reads. \u201cThey are also concerned over your sexual education policy, enhanced by your own denial of their right to \u2018opt-out\u2019 of your district\u2019s sexual education program, in direct violation of Michigan law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The school district launched an internal book review after the October school board meeting. DPS announced Monday that it would approve \u201cThe Lovely Bones\u201d by Alice Sebold and \u201cFlamer\u201d by Mike Curato, and restrict \u201cEleanor &#038; Park\u201d by Rainbow Rowell to high school libraries. The district banned two of the books in question, \u201cRed, White, and Royal Blue\u201d by Casey McQuiston and \u201cPush\u201d by Sapphire.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know our rights as parents and we know that right now our rights are being infringed upon,\u201d said mother Stephanie Butler, before she read passages from the book \u201cFlamer,\u201d which includes graphic references to male genitalia and sexual encounters.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">GRAPHIC<\/p>\n<p>A parent in Dearborn, MI reads from the pornographic book \u201cFlamer\u201d which is available in her kid\u2019s school. <\/p>\n<p>Reminder that when they call us \u201cbook banners\u201d they\u2019re referring to parents not wanting their kids to read porn like this in school. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/krzD6qT9eL\">pic.twitter.com\/krzD6qT9eL<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Libs of TikTok (@libsoftiktok) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/libsoftiktok\/status\/1592354513209667585?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 15, 2022<\/a>  <\/p>\n<p>Butler told The Federalist that her child checked out \u201cFlamer\u201d at a school library, adding that she would burn the book before returning it to school shelves.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll even pay the library fee,\u201d Butler said.<\/p>\n<p>The district enlisted a team of \u201cmedia specialists\u201d to conduct an internal review process of library books, including specific titles parents brought forth. At the meeting, parents slammed the board for its lack of transparency, asking what criteria the review committee uses to determine if a book is sexually explicit or not.<\/p>\n<p>A district representative said that media specialists had not yet reviewed \u201cAll Boys Aren\u2019t Blue\u201d or \u201cThis Book is Gay\u201d because the team hadn\u2019t read them yet. \u201cAll Boys Aren\u2019t Blue\u201d books discuss sexual encounters, rape, and sexuality, while \u201cThis Book is Gay\u201d is a \u201ccandid, funny, and uncensored exploration of sexuality,\u201d according to its online description.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t get any more explicit than seeing a woman naked with boobs and a crotch,\u201d said Ann Clark, a Dearborn resident and former candidate for Wayne County Commissioner. \u201cWhat is it going to take? What is your definition of explicit?
