The FTC investigation sought information from tech companies like Amazon, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube on how they\u00a0collect and track personal information, how ads are determined, whether the companies apply algorithms or data analytics to privacy information, how user engagement is measured, and how practices impact children and teenagers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMoreover, Congress and state legislatures have considered numerous bipartisan bills related to each of the five 6(b) orders. Certainly, the elected representatives of the people \u2014 and more importantly, the American people \u2014 would benefit from the findings of this investigation to craft sound public policy,\u201d Cruz argued.<\/p>\n<p>The letter comes as TikTok has become the subject of allegations regarding child sex abuse material on the social media platform, according to a Forbes investigative <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/alexandralevine\/2022\/11\/11\/tiktok-private-csam-child-sexual-abuse-material\/?sh=6ae568313ad9&#038;utm_source=ForbesMainTwitter&#038;utm_campaign=socialflowForbesMainTwitter&#038;utm_medium=social\">report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Forbes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/alexandralevine\/2022\/11\/11\/tiktok-private-csam-child-sexual-abuse-material\/?sh=6ae568313ad9&#038;utm_source=ForbesMainTwitter&#038;utm_campaign=socialflowForbesMainTwitter&#038;utm_medium=social\">report<\/a> claimed that explicit material can be found in \u201cpost-in-private\u201d accounts and is easily accessible using specific phrases to avoid algorithms that would lead to a violation, as the Daily Wire previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/tiktok-has-a-child-pornography-and-chinese-espionage-problem-report\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Two GOP leaders, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI), are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/republican-lawmakers-to-introduce-legislation-banning-tiktok-in-u-s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">introducing legislation<\/a> to ban TikTok in the U.S., arguing that the social media platform is used by the Chinese Communist Party and poses a national security risk to America.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAnything short of a complete separation\u201d of TikTok from Chinese owner ByteDance \u201cwill likely leave significant national security issues regarding operations, data and algorithms unresolved,\u201d Rubio said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cCongress needs to act against the TikTok threat before it\u2019s too late,\u201d the lawmakers concluded.<\/p>\n<p>The effort follows a New York Times\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/09\/26\/technology\/tiktok-national-security-china.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> from September that found the Biden administration struck a preliminary deal with TikTok to fix national security issues.
