Exploited Children],\u201d Cullinane said.<\/p>\n<p>Haley McNamara, director of the International Centre on Sexual Exploitation, told Forbes that major social media apps all share the same child sex abuse material problem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is this trend of either closed spaces or semi-closed spaces that become easy avenues for networking of child abusers, people wanting to trade child sexual abuse materials,\u201d she told Forbes. \u201cThose kinds of spaces have also historically been used for grooming and even selling or advertising people for sex trafficking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McNamara added, \u201cwhat happens in practice is the real test,\u201d despite TikTok\u2019s safety policies to protect minors from exploitation.<\/p>\n<p>TikTok has been making headlines recently after federal communication officials urged the U.S. government to ban the video-sharing app TikTok to protect American citizens\u2019 private data.<\/p>\n<p>Brendan Carr, one of five commissioners for the Federal Communications Commission, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/federal-government-urged-to-ban-tiktok-by-fcc-commissioner-warning-user-data-allegedly-flow-back-to-chinese-communist-party\">told<\/a> Axios the federal agency could not regulate the social media app and the data flow back to Beijing and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Chinese tech giant ByteDance owns TikTok, which currently has more than 200 million downloads in the United States \u2014 and according to Fox Business, the company must share its data with the CCP upon request, as required by law.<\/p>\n<p>TikTok officials responded to the FCC in a statement to Axios, affirmed the company remains confident that it\u2019s on a path to reaching an agreement regarding national security concerns with the federal government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCommissioner Carr has no role in the confidential discussions with the U.S. government related to TikTok and appears to be expressing views independent of his role as an FCC commissioner,\u201d a TikTok spokesperson told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2022\/11\/01\/interview-fcc-commissioner-says-government-should-ban-tiktok\">Axios<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Representative Mike Gallagher (R-WI) are introducing legislation prohibiting TikTok in the United States, outlining the threat that TikTok and other social media businesses that the CCP effectively manages pose to the nation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TikTok allegedly has child sex abuse material hiding in plain sight all over the social media platform, according to a Forbes investigative report.
