And we are called to recognize and honor how critical every father is to that foundation,\u201d Obama said on Father\u2019s Day 2008.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut if we are honest with ourselves, we\u2019ll admit that what too many fathers also are is missing \u2014 missing from too many lives and too many homes. You and I know how true this is in the African-American community. We know that more than half of all black children live in single-parent households, a number that has doubled \u2014 doubled \u2014 since we were children. And the foundations of our community are weaker because of it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Which brings us to Nick Cannon (who I\u2019m going to Google now to find out who he is).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNicholas Scott Cannon is an American television host, actor, rapper, and comedian,\u201d Wikipedia says. \u201cIn television, Cannon began as a teenager on \u2018All That\u2019 before going on to host \u2018The Nick Cannon Show,\u2019 \u2018Wild \u2018n Out,\u2019 \u2018America\u2019s Got Talent,\u2019 \u2018Lip Sync Battle Shorties,\u2019 and \u2018The Masked Singer.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ugh. Are those really TV shows?<\/p>\n<p>The 42 year old is apparently super rich \u2014 and potent. He has 11 children (plus a 12th on the way) from six different women.<\/p>\n<p>Cannon had twins with then-wife Mariah Carey in 2011. Then he had three children each with Brittany Bell, an American model, dancer and beauty pageant titleholder, and Abby De La Rosa, a model and radio personality.<\/p>\n<p>He also fathered a son with Bre Tiesi, a model and \u201cstar\u201d on season 6 of \u201cSelling Sunset\u201d (whatever that is) and a daughter with LaNisha Cole, a model best known for her work on \u201cThe Price Is Right\u201d TV show.<\/p>\n<p>And he fathered two children with Alyssa Scott (who is, get ready for it, a model), with his 12th child due soon.<\/p>\n<p>Cannon came out to discuss his prolific fatherdom when a British paper estimated he spends $3 million annually in child support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe jaw-dropping $3 million amount was calculated by taking into account several factors, including Nick\u2019s status as a high-income earner, according to California practicing family law attorney and legal expert, Goldie Schon,\u201d The Sun <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-sun.com\/entertainment\/4789505\/nick-cannon-millions-child-support-baby-mamas-lanisha\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you have somebody like Nick Cannon, who\u2019s an extremely high-income earner, the courts in California have the right to deviate from the typical child support guidelines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Cannon said he doesn\u2019t spend $3 million a year on child support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI definitely spend a lot more than that on my children annually,\u201d the U.K. paper reported. \u201cI don\u2019t plan to ever have to participate in the governmental system of child.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a shocker. Cannon was raised by his paternal grandfather, whom both he and his biological father called \u201cdad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Which brings us full circle to Obama\u2019s speech.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I\u2019ve realized is that life doesn\u2019t count for much unless you\u2019re willing to do your small part to leave our children \u2014 all of our children \u2014 a better world. Even if it\u2019s difficult. Even if the work seems great,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Guess that doesn\u2019t apply to Cannon, who will no doubt move on soon and father Child No. 13.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is our ultimate responsibility as fathers and parents,\u201d Obama said. \u201cWe try. We hope. We do what we can to build our house upon the sturdiest rock. And when the winds come, and the rains fall, and they beat upon that house, we keep faith that our Father will be there to guide us, and watch over us, and protect us, and lead His children through the darkest of storms into light of a better day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not Nick. He won\u2019t be there.
