The initiative is powered by the <u>Ministry of <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&#038;l=en&#038;o=3471299-1&#038;h=619311242&#038;u=https%3A%2F%2Fthedigital.gov.ua%2F&#038;a=Digital+\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Digital <\/a>Transformation of <span class=\"xn-location\">Ukraine<\/span><\/u>, <u>FTX<\/u>, and <u>Everstake,\u201d explains a press <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/ukraines-ministry-of-digital-transformation-ftx-and-everstake-launch-crypto-fundraising-site-aid-for-ukraine-301501959.html\">release<\/a> announcing the joint effort.<\/u><\/p>\n<p>The \u201cAid For <span class=\"xn-location\">Ukraine\u201d effort utilized FTX services to convert \u201c<\/span>crypto funds received into fiat and send the donations to the National Bank of <span class=\"xn-location\">Ukraine,\u201d ultimately <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/_aidforukraine\/status\/1515315399692279810?s=46&#038;t=FZ7Hou5TNuvjmgOcB85sag\">becoming<\/a> the fifth-largest charitable foundation assisting in the country\u2019s war effort.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis marks the first-ever instance of a cryptocurrency exchange directly cooperating with a public financial entity to provide a conduit for crypto donations,\u201d continued the press release, which also included a quote from Fried:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAt the onset of the conflict in <span class=\"xn-location\">Ukraine<\/span>, FTX felt the need to provide assistance in any way it could. By working with the Ministry of Digital Transformation to set up payment rails and facilitate the conversion of crypto donations into fiat currency, we have given the National Bank of <span class=\"xn-location\">Ukraine<\/span> the ability to deliver aid and resources to the people who need it most. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with Sergey and the Everstake team as they continue to work tirelessly in helping Ukrainians as they suffer from this conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Though the website, whose domain ends with an official \u201c.gov.ua\u201d from the Ukrainian government, that was used to promote the initiative and gather donations has been deleted, the last available archive of the webpage from October 26th revealed that $60 million had been <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20221026143658\/https:\/\/donate.thedigital.gov.ua\/\">raised<\/a>. Other reports estimate the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/_aidforukraine\/status\/1504508395101040651?s=46&#038;t=FZ7Hou5TNuvjmgOcB85sag\">figure<\/a> at $100 million.<\/p>\n<p>Among \u201cAid for Ukraine\u2019s\u201d expenditures during the month of July was\u00a0$5,250,519 for a \u201cworldwide anti-war media campaign,\u201d which noted that \u201cfor\u00a0security reasons, reports will be published after our victory.\u201d In April, $3,957,917 was spent on the campaign.<\/p>\n<p>$5,738,200 was spent on a \u201cpurchase of specialized hardware and software complexes\u201d in July which claimed additional details were classified as \u201cnon-public information.\u201d In April, $5,500,000 was spent on the hardware and software.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the group spent $5,083,988, according to the website, on \u201clethal equipment\u201d in July, claiming additional details contained \u201cnon-public information.\u201d In April, $1,801,113 was spent on the equipment.<\/p>\n<p>The website does not appear to have financial information for the months of May, June, August, or September.<\/p>\n<p>Ukrainian government officials were also quoted on the site in an effort to raise funds,\u00a0including Mykhailo Fedorov, the Vice Prime Minister of The country\u2019s Ministry of Digital Transformation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery helmet, bulletproof vest and night vision device save the lives of Ukrainian soldiers.
